Default pulling distributor and reset timing

I am removing the distributor to change out the o-ring.. tell me if this is right..

I wanted to know how to align at TDC, is it better to set to TDC before removing it, which is rotor close to terminal 1 correct).. and put it back in close to how I removed it?

I have a timing gun and need to short a couple terminals to set timing to 10BTDC correct?

I always set it to TDC before I remove it from the engine but you can also do it before installing as well.

to do the timing set, on a warmed up engine (warmed up is key, if you set it cold it will change when warmed up)
jump terminals te1 and e1, and rotate distributor till you see 10 degrees on the crank, then tighten the distributor nut.
and the SST is basically a paperclip or some short piece of wire.
