speaking of hinges
I wrote earlier of the problem I was having with the drivers door hinge. I found this website, http://www.jkwebdesign.co.uk/lexusclub/doors.htm. It's everything you wanted to know about rebuilding an Sc300/400 hinge. I think it's way to involved and complex for my taste so I think I'm just going to look for a complete used hinge here on the forum or ebay. I'm really in no big hurry.
Changing the subject, I was just reading a post about seat repair/covers. The seats will eventually need to be recovered but for now that's way too expensive but I had an idea earlier today while I was at a Johann's craft store. They sell vinyl by the yard. Some of it is designated as upholstery vinyl and it came in a lot of different colors and textures and it looks pretty nice. The appearance of my seats would be greatly improved by covering the two panels on the seating area. I think I'm going to buy a similar color and use one of those awl like stitching tools to patch over them. The vinyl ranges in price from about $9.95 to $39.95 per yard, but that's a piece that's 36" by at least 48" which is way more than I would need. I know I can buy a 12" bu 48" piece so I'll only pay one third of the per yard price. It may not work but at least for now it's worth a try.
Also, I have another set of wheels I can use. They're Borbet type H that I kept when I had to junk my '93 Infinity Q45 after a timing chain guide failed and trashed the engine. They are not the wheels I'd like to end up with but they are an inch bigger than stock, the tires are better, they look a little nicer and they're free. I'll post a picture as soon as I can.
