Question sc300 1jz Project Car

Hello Club Lexus,

Please excuse my Noobyness. I have recently bought a auto 1992 sc300. I have also bought a 1jzgte 5speed front clip. I plan to start the swap very soon. My main question is what size/how many wires do I need to extend the wiring harness. Also the guy at the engine shop suggests I use an electric radiator fan, what is your guys' view on that? Also can I use the stock power steering from the SC, because the 1j's is broken. Are there any tips or things i should look out for before I tackle the tranny/engine swap? Thank your guys for your time, and I greatly appreciate any feedback.

I can't answer your harness questions but I can newer a couple of others:

I'd suggest converting to a 2JZGTE Supra mechanical fan setup (different from 1JZ and Aristo hydro fans). For turbo it flows a lot of air very efficiently. The only electric fan conversion you will want to deal with is a factory IS300 twin electric fan setup with the integrated fluid reservoir. That's a very reliable electric fan system compared to many on the aftermarket. Still, mechanical works reliably and does the job so long as its not a hydro system.

Rearding the cross compatability of the power steering pump from the 2JZ-GE I have no idea but you must use a 1JZ/2JZGTE style PS pump reservoir.

As far as other things to tackle before the swap: do ALL long term maintenance, including a new t-belt, water pump, oil pump, check the valves, replace many gaskets and seals, etc. Also, you may want to rebuild your R154 gearbox with a couple of crucial Marlin Crawler parts since you have no idea of knowing how it was driven by the previous owner(s) and because the thrust washer and front bearing retainer plate are known weaknesses in those transmissions.
