Default Key Problem

Just bought an SC300 but only have one key and no Lexus remote. A "Python" alarm system has been fitted in place of the Lexus system.

1. I want to buy two more keys - what is the best cost effective way to do this? I do not know what my key number is. ( I do not have an owners manual which might have listed the key number, and my one key has no number on it but it does open the trunk.)

2. Is it best to get the Python system removed and have the Lexus system reactivated? Or perhaps I should find out from "Python" how to overide the alarm in case I lose/damage the remote.

3. I saw one post that says something about having to replace the engine ECU for $1800 if you don't have the Lexus remote. Why is this?

4. The trunk does not unlock electrically - I noticed that on one post that the circuit for unlocking the trunk is connected to the Lexus alarm system. Is this right?

Comments on the above would be much appreciated as well as if you can provide me with the best course of action to take.

Thanks

Peter

Peter,

#1. There is a group buy on keys in the group buy section

#2. Get the Python working with trunk release and order a few extra remotes.

#3. That isn't true.

#4. SC's all have electric trunk release.

Call your local lock smiths and ask them if they can copy Lexus keys. I got 2 copies made for 20$ each.

Update

Bought keys on the group buy (even tho' its now January)

Trunk problem was due to valet key switch being pushed in - I have not received the owners manual yet, so did not realize this was why at first.

2autumn,

Glad CL can help!!!! That is what we are here for afterall. However, if you get a chance, you should consider joining as a paid member to take advantage of better group buy discounts.
