Hey everyone... I just don't know what to anymore where I am. A while ago I posted issues with my '92 SC400. Now I have a new issue. I can't get it to start. My original problem turned out that I was leaking fuel somewhere, which was of course causing me power issues. So, I pulled the fuel rail, replaced all the o-rings, and re set all of the injectors, one by one, in the original places and positions that they came from. Before this, it would at least start. Now, nothing. I just put a brand new cold start injector in last night. and currently, I've already replaced all of these...

1.) TPS
2.) IACV
3.) Spark Plugs, Wires
4.) Both Distributor Coil Packs
5.) Both caps & rotors
6.) MAF
7.) Both O2 sensors behind the cats
8.) Cold Start Injector

I don't think it's the fuel pump, because I did the ECM bypass, and heard and still hear it firing like it's running. The starter is only 3 years old. All hoses are connected, and everything is tightened. I just don't know what to do anymore. It tries to start, and after putting in the cold start injector, it fired, and then immediately died. Now, nothing... Just at a complete loss at this point... ANY HELP would be greatly appreciated.

 

I'll take a stab at it. Rebuild your starter, I know you said it's only 3 years old, but they do fail or something could be amiss all together. I rebuilt my starter for $23. with a kit from eBay. Getting the starter out is a slight pita, but I removed my driver side front tire then reached it by using extensions in diagonal direction to remove then rebuilt it. See photo of old parts vs new kit parts.

OP, I find that, a lot times, the last thing you worked on/ touched is causing the problem. Perhaps you forgot to plug something back in, missed a ground connection, or shorted something out when you did the injector maintenance.

Stop throwing parts at the car as well. It will only frustrate you and your wallet.

Last, if you are truly on your last limb, consider a lexus/toyota specialist, there is only so much a bunch of people on a forum can diagnose with a no-start situation across the internet. I had cooling issues with little to no solid answers and I honestly took it to a lexus shop and paid 78.00 and they found the problem saving me money in time and guesswork with parts.

GREAT advice. When stumped, the dealer is my choice for diagnostics. I rarely let them repair anything but they can save you TONS when you don't know what's wrong.
I get that printout and head right over to my street mechanic after stopping in here to print out a DIY for him (and offer to assist to learn).

Correct, the dealer can review and diagnose the vehicle for $125. It will probably be the best $125 you've ever spent.

 

moved to maintenance. does is start and stay running with a little bit of throttle? It could be a bad/stuck idle air valve that will cause a hard/no start.
since you have a 92 you can also try disconnecting the maf plug and see if it starts, that will help rule out the basic mechanical stuff and the recent work you did, and if thats the case it would point to a sensor or something. ecu could still ultimately be the culprit, did you ever open up your ecu for an inspection since your last thread?
If the motor turns over the starter is fine btw, you don't want to have people trying to repair a sc400 starter without really good cause, its not a 30 min job like it is on a sc300.

 

Hey everybody thanks so much for replying... Excellent news.. I found a shop that only works on Imports nearby the house. It turns out, I had a corroded wire under my fuel rail. When I replaced all the o-rings on my injectors and re-seated them, I destroyed what was left of it. $75 fix, and now she runs great! Thanks again everyone!!
