FWIW, the only crack in my center vent occurred during the summer when I would not have been using the heater.
Regarding the price of the part, in addition to it being automotive and a Lexus (read: rich customers) it is also a very small production run.

Reviving as I need to replace this piece as well.
Can anyone say for certain that the vent surround on the '92 SC400 will *NOT* work on the '95? This question was asked and there was speculation that it was different, but I don't think anyone really ever answer this.
