Default Can leather be swapped from one steering wheel to another? ES300 Grey Steering Wheel

So I have two ES300 Steering wheels.

ES300 Black with Wood that matches the SC400 interior
ES300 Grey with Dark Cherry Wood Grain (the grey leather matches my grey SC400 interior).

Can leather be swapped from one steering wheel to another? ES300 Grey Steering Wheel-rupayod.jpg
This picture doesn't show how different the leather and wood are on both wheels.

My plan is to swap the leather from the grey steering wheel on to the black steering wheel. The black steering wheel has wood that matches my interior. My interior is grey so that is why I'm swapping the grey leather.

I'm currently trying to find a good leather shop in my area. You think it's possible that a shop can swap the leather from one wheel to another?

Also I read about people on other forums plastidipping their airbags to get them a different color. Apparently the plastidip doesn't effect how the airbag works at all. They don't make RX300 2001 grey airbags so I had to get a tan 2001 RX300 airbag. My plan is to plastidip it grey.

Hopefully this project turns out alright.

Nobody is going to re-wrap used leather.

I would suggest sanding down the leather and using an SEM product. Just follow the suggested application methods by SEM and it should last for a long time.

Don't use plastidip.... Use SEM products as stated above.

Damn. I guess there is no way of swapping the wood? From what I understand the wood is part of the wheel.

Why is this wheel so expensive? lol

Plastidip just on the airbag. Apparently using paint on the airbag is not recommended. But plastidip is okay from what I read. The results looked factory with the plastidip on the airbag.

edit: Was reading more about using SEM on the airbag... seems like the way to go.

Maybe I can also stain the wood on the steering wheel?

Seems like its very possible.

The steering wheels are hand made. I saw a documentary once on youtube of Lexus steering wheels being made in the factory.

As a quick note, my airbad was gray and I SEM'd it black. It came out great and has been doing well for 2 year now.

Awesome. So I'll SEM the airbag.

I'll read into using SEM on the leather.

I was testing to see what the black steering wheel would look like in my interior and it was out of place, the wood matched great though. The dark cherry wood grain does not match at all. If only it was as easy as swapping the leather because the grey steering wheel leather matches perfectly.

I found a leather shop near me that does custom work. I'm going to go by and see them if they could dye my leather, or put new leather on. I'd rather a profesional do it. If not I'll try the SEM route.

So I found a company called FibreNew which specializes in leather and plastic dye. They can make any leather or plastic look like new again. This was once a black steering wheel and a tan airbag!

Looks so nice in person. Can't wait to get it in the car. The color matches my interior perfectly. Custom leather steering wheel FTW!!

Cost $175 to have the steering wheel and airbag done in Grey.
