Oh happy day....... I have FIXED the SPEEDO and TACH
We have had such an issue with these failing tach's and speedo's, but out of the ten clusters I have worked on for bad speedo and tach's since I started looking into them last month, only 1 of 10 had an actual motherboard issue, the other 9 were problems with the motors and their respective motherboards.
In 2003 I bailed everyone out on the lighting problems for the cluster. In 2004 I added the radio and climate, and you can mark 2013 as the year I fixed the speedo and tach issue. I am so happy to finally get this working for everyone with all the issues we've endured. I've encountered more than ten different ways the Speeo and Tach can fail on their motherboard so there is no one way to actually fix them, it's just got to be tested each part individually on the board, power the IC chip and check all the outputs for the voltage they are supposed to be putting out or taking in, some are jumped between pins internally and should only read resistance instead of voltage. It's a big old mess, but I got this sucker whipped finally. It should be absolutely possible to repair 9 of 10 units after checking each pinout in the IC and testing all motherboard components. I'll update as much information on the two site as possible (lls & CL) to get people as much info as possible about getting them working. This is truly a great day since so many people are having such issues with them lately. I wish it was one of those things where it was just one part in particular failing, but it's been damn near every single piece failing randomly on the 10 I have rebuilt, so I just rebuild the entire thing, IC chip and all on most of them so far, but I can absolutely pinpoint the failed component on the particular one that is in front of me at the time to make it work again. I've never had time to look at them, but now that I have spent some time with them it's quite possible and a good addition to all the other fixes I've come up with.

I'm going to try and find the OEM pinouts on that IC so we can get an exact voltage on each pin to compare with how much it changes over the years and log the voltages so we can compare clusters that have say 100k on them with clusters that have 250k to see if I can pinpoint when issues may arise based on how their voltage readings come out. If I see a weak pin I might be able to predict it's failure.
