Whats up forum? I'm new here. I'm apologizing ahead of time to the forum police bc I know I will take some flaming for starting this thread, but I will say that I did spend a *little* of my valuable time searching for the answers to my question.

I just bought a 1993 SC400. I love it. I know next to nothing about cars. I do know that the 98's and newer have VVT and get roughly 40 more HP. I'm debating mod'ing mine or selling it and looking for a 98 or newer.

Question: If I wanted to add forced induction to an SC400 w/ stock internals, do both the 1UZ-FE and 1UZ-FE VVT-i accept Forced Induction exactly the same way, or do they require different set-ups? Basically, does the VVT-i require anything different that the earlier version didn't.

And...

Turbo or Supercharged and a simple why?

Note: I like a sporty feel off the line and want the most amount of SIMPLE HP available without too much mod'ing. I was thinking about looking for a 98 or newer because of the extra 40 HP and adding a supercharger to it but didn't know if it was harder to FI a 98 because of the VVT-i.

The VVTI and NON VVTI have the same intake tubing if I remember correctly. It has been awhile since I have been under the hood of a newer one. For added HP, do the BFI (search), delete the cats, straight pipe the exhaust, add different mufflers, and add a turbo.

Finding a newer one isn't too hard, but finding one that has low mileage or hasn't been beat up, is the deciding factor. I would keep what you have, fix the little things, and add boost later, once all the suspension and maintenance has been gone through. This is only my opinion.

IMO a supercharger is limited on the power, but a turbo has room to grow.. Thus why I decided to boost. Once you go boost, you will not except nothing less....

 

Turbo or super charger will run ya on these 1UZ but man do they sound cool! I agree with 1JZPWRD stick with what you got and make it your own!
