Default tick tick tick tick, engine noise ??

Hi all

I hope you guys don't mind if I post questions concerning my new sc400, I guess that’s why we're all here :-)

After purchasing the sc400, I noticed a tick tick tick engine noise while the motor is running, if I accelerate, the ticking increases, I’ve hear this sound on other cars I’ve owned but didn't worry about it until I got the lex...

Does it sound like I need to worry about it?

Also, the lex seems to be idling high, 500rps when idle, 1k when starting up first thing in the morning... is 500rps normal? If I remove my foot from the brake, the car does tend to launch forward more then I’d like.....

Also, should I keep overdrive and/or traction control on or off for normal driving?

Default Hope this helps

The Ticking may be your Valves may need to be adjusted..(to be done at a DEALER)

The Idle is normal it Idles up to 1000-1500 when u first start the car just to warm up, Then down to around 700-500 after warm in very normal onn most cars as lond as it is not surging up and down .....That is something else

I hope this helps

PS the Traction control is up to u and where u drive If its wet and Icy u might want it ...............

Later
Carl

If you can only hear the ticking when the hood is lifted, that's just the fuel injection (normal). If you can hear the ticking from outside or in the cabin, then your valve timing is off. Under normal driving, overdrive should be on as well as traction control. When you're racing, that's a different story.

I don't think you can adjust the valve on those V8 1UZ-FE and yeah I have a LS400, when the car is cold it idles at 1500rpm and then drop to 1000rpm and when it is fully warm (reach the normal temp) it reachs around 500-700 rpm.

Overdrive is good for the gas milage and TC is for safety on the normal driving condition.

I think the other guys have pretty much answered the ticking question.

As far as the surge forward, I have one question: what kind of cars have you driven before? [nothing intended, just a question] V-8s have torque AND will tend to move forward when you release the brake.

The traction control is pretty much straight-forward. Turn it on when you think you'll have traction problems. The torque of your SC400's V-8 can spin your drive wheels when the road conditions are less than ideal.

Onto the overdrive: RTFM! But seriously, look in the owner's manual. It gives you specifics. But overall, with any car, I keep the OD off for city driving (anything under 50MPH) and turn it on for cruising on the highway. Use your judgment. It's not that difficult once you understand the purpose of the OD gear.
