Default Fix it Right or Mickey Mouse it. Its up to you

You must take it to a shop to evacuate (suck out all the old crap) and refill to the right pressure with the R134a. Those kits they sell at auto parts stores do not work in my experience. Those are made for if you are already running on R134a. They will also inject a die into your system to check for leaks. You take it back after running the ac for a couple weeks and the will check it with a black light to catch any leaking.

Pep Boys have a free A/C check for the month of August, you can download the coupon from their site. Let them check it for free and then go from there.

If you don't want to take it to a shop you need to diagnose the problem step by step. The first thing you want to do is check the fuses, especially the 10 amp fuse (red) under where your left shin would be while sitting in the car with your leg straightened out toward the firewall. It's hidden with carpet. Just pull back the carpet and you will see a small rectangular black box. Take the lid off and there it is. The fuse is toward the upper left area. It is actually called the HTR fuse on the diagram I think. I will check in a few hours. I need to leave now.

DO NOT mix R12 and R134. The best thing you can do is evacuate the whole system, retrofit to R134, pressure test, vacuum, and recharge.

I took my SC in for a FREE brake check to Pep Boys and they squirted some oil on my shocks to say they were leaking. Watch out for those FREE anything form auto mechanics.

This is great advise and would be the second thing you do after making sure the fuses and relays are working properly.

The evacuation and refill should be left to a professional or a DIY'er that has the right equipment. The evacuation process sucks everything out of the system, including any moisture. Moisture is poison to an ac setup.

Default Official R12 to R134a Retrofit

Here is the Service Bulletin from Lexus on how to change from R12 the correct way. My mechanic charged me less than $100,00 for everything. AC is ice cold! Best $100,00 I ever spent. lol. Oh, not to mention those kits they sell at auto parts store cost about $30.00. For the extra seventy bucks and knowing its done right, priceless.
