Thanks!!! I am so anxious to get this thing back on the road, and even more stoked that I have saved up enough to pretty much finish my suspension as soon as it's back together. Then time to start saving for a swap! woot woot!

Well almost ready for primer, body work is ****, but after 4-5 times trying to re-do it and still ending up with the same **** results, I am gonna say screw it and just shoot it with primer. I am over trying to get it to look nice and am just getting frustrated. So hopefully I can get it shot here in the next week or so.

Body work - Never again

you will need to sand the body with a sanding block then go over the bondo with putty glaze and block that also. primer that area then trace with black spray paint and block that too, as you go up on the steps of block sanding you will bring up the grit of sandpaper from 140, 200, 400. after you finish blocking all that good stuff prime the whole car again and block sand the car again with water and 400 being careful not to get to steel. once that wetsand step is done base, clear can go on good luck alot of ppl dont realize how much goes into body work

Oh yeah, not looking forward to it LOL, I just want to drive the car haha! But it will be nice once it is all done, just might not look perfect. Oh well, it will get beat up anyway

Yep! Body work always a pain. But once that shiny new paint goes on, it will be worth all the effort.

Sorry about the lack of updates, I have been incredibly busy with work and personal stuff, but I finally got the beast all primered and I am ****ing loving it LOL. Such a huge relief too!

First thing that got primer was a fender, more of a test, and I was blown away with how good it looked.

You can't see it in the pic, but there was a mistake in the body work where the front bodyline meets the fender well area, I fixed this and it looks great!

Again, you can't see any difference in the picture, but this is the fixed fender

Made some nice zebra stripes on the hood lol, should be perfect once I block it down

Trunk turned out pretty damn good too

Passenger door

And by far the hardest things were the door mirrors, how the hell are you supposed to get into all the tiny nooks and crannys?

Front bumper

Driver side door

Rear Bumper

And now to my personal favorite, the chassis!!!

I was really worried about the roof, but it turned out great

And a close up of the primer. This seriously has to be the prettiest and best looking primer I have ever seen in my life.

So now onto blocking it down, fixing any minor imperfections and then on to paint!!! WOOOOO So damn stoked haha.

Thanks,
Rick

and in case anyone is wondering, everything has 3 to 4 coats of primer on it, and so far I have used about 3/4 of a gallon, but with quite a bit of wasted paint due to me not knowing how much to put in my gun, and having to re-do some spots.

Thanks,
Rick

^^^Rick, you're making some solid progress...after the blocking is complete, you'll be able to spray with no issues or any peeling. What mix are you using in your gun, and what tip are you spraying with? What's your plan for curing?

thx,

steve

Thanks! I am using a 4:1 ratio of primer and hardener and using a 1.7mm tip. I am still getting used to dialing in the patterns and pressure, but from the first fender I sprayed to the chassis which was lats, I have been getting much better. Still nervous about the base and clear, but I will be at an actual booth with plenty of room and all the parts laid out and ready to go. Should be fun

And I don't know much about curing. I was told to just don't wash or wax it for awhile then maybe do a cut or buff. I will have to read the paint tech sheet again. Do you have any info on this?

Thanks,
Rick

Haha thanks, and at every point during this I greatly underestimated the amount of time/work it would take, it was always "Oh just a few more weeks" lol. But honestly, once I get it painted and start putting it back together it should go very quickly. I am great with mechanical stuff, not so much the body/paint thing lol, It really takes a special eye and talent to do a really good job, I now have a ton of respect for body and metal guys.

I don't think I will be able to work on it this week though, but should have most of the weekend to start blocking it down. oh and of course.. "Just a couple more weeks!"

Read the tech sheets, they'll tell you all you need to know about curing and such. You can wash it whenever but do not wax it for at least 90 days. You have to give the trapped gases in the various layers of paint a chance to work their way out. If you can leave it in the sun a few times the heat will help the outgassing.

Everything looks really good, I'm impressed with how far you took everything down. I have a word of warning about your antenna shave, though. It sounds like you glassed the back of it and then filled or glazed the hole. I hate to say it but that will crack in time; it's not a matter of if but when. The rear quarter flexes quite a bit when driving and the glass/filler combo will crack. The way to do it right is to weld a patch in there, grind it as smooth as possible, and use as thin a coat of glaze as you can. There are pics in my build thread, link in sig.

Other than that, looks great! Can't wait to see the finished product.
