Default 2jzgte ticking

Does not really have any affect on how the motor runs, just annoying. No smoke, idles fine, and pulls very strong. Its a gte aristo motor with stock twins. Anybody have any guess what is making this ticking noise? Tried different oil viscosity and brand, popped my valve cover everything seems ok. It's not coming from the front/timing belt area but towards intake manifold side. Could this be valve shim?
Pardon my loud fan

Could be a shim. It's definitely a lifter-like valvetrain noise. I personally would just leave it as is unless you really feel like taking the cams off.

Sounds like valve shims to me. Same sound I got before I shimmed my 272s . Get a stetoscope and see if you hear it loudest on the valve cover ...

did you ever do any headwork? or were the camshafts ever taken out? is there any chance the buckets and/or shims were swapped around? from the factory they are clearanced specifically for each valve

if i were you i would pull the valve covers off and inspect the valve clearances with a feeler gauge.

heres the service manual procedure

Already planning on doing that just dont have time and I need to get a feeler gauge. I dont redline this car, may be only 3x in the past 3 months. Lol Does this require immediate attention?

Start the car and pull every coil connector one at a time. If the noise stops its that cylinder that is giving you problems.

Yes if the tick goes away when you unplug the coil it will tell you its that cylinder that is messed up. Usually the block.

not if its valve itself tapping. The cam is still going to be turning and opening the valve so the valve will still be tapping against the valve seat

Be careful ignoring that too long. If you get enough lash, you could theoretically spit a shim out and have some big problems.

Is it rpm dependant? Mines would tick from 3-3.5 k rpm. Drained my oil put it in the sun and it was sparkling so i pulled the motor.

Did you found out what was wrong with it? What does it mean when oil sparkles? Was it burning oil/coolant? Was there a compression problem?

I think he spun a bearing Tac1sc. Yours sounds more like top end to me. Its easy to pop the covers off and at least check the clearances. Once you know your clearances, you will know more about the source.
