Cause I'm pretty sure only the part where it slopes down goes below cross member because the whole pan won't fit In that space.
right now based on what you say , I wouldn't rule having the wong mounts yet cause you haven't cleared the oil pan yet beyond the cross member and pretty sure back of your engine is against your firewall that is why it wont budge anymore ..and to me that means engine hasnt gone far enough. I was having same problems on my first time dropping an engine, till I manage to get the right angle of car which is jacked up in front and the angle of the hoisted engine.

keep on trying, I really believe it is an issue of car angle and engine angle to be able to push it all the way in , assuming that there are no obstructions at the end of the tranny / tranny tunnel. The secret is when to lower the engine while pushing it in and when you need to lower the car too.
