Default Temp gauge gone bad???

Anyone out there ever had their temp gauge go bad? SC300 96. It reads hot. Right under the red pretty much. The radiator is new, thermostat, and fan clutch. Soooooo whats next?

Oh and also, the prev own looks to have gone into the cluster as I can see the clips that go over the screws at the top of the cluster are no longer there.

If the car is not overheating then the sensor is bad.
