SC400 Single Turbo (Rear Mount)
#46
i have been mapping twins for my sc400 for about 6 weeks trying to find out just what 2 units to use.
when i found the post below i really got interested in this.
then when i found this rear mount thread directly on an SC400 its just more assurance that i am on the right track.
heres a Lexus IS F this is what the guy said about it.
Yes, STS has a twin turbo kit now for sale, call them up. I had the first Turbocharged IS F in the world and have 12,800 miles on the turbo kit with zero issues. Runs strong and put down 574hp @6psi on the Mustang dyno. I have no engine management on the car or reflash and it runs perfect. You don't need it if you keep the boost below 6psi. Now, if you want more then 6 psi the car will lean out. But, my air/fuel numbers are 11.2 in full boost which is perfect. That's the facts. If you want a ride anytime, bring it! Car is in Cleveland now for the Auto Show.
the part in big letters really got me.

theres problems with just going out into the world to make a living... even more problems with not going out to make one...lol
turbo charging in itself has been around since the early 1900's i think.
but due to more popular choices and some bad raps turbo charging took a back seat. but now with what we know about it's capabilies and current engineering has improved and contiues to improve upon it, it's currently "the ish".
in 20 years who knows. i just saw an electric car spank a corvette and kept pulling on him too... tzero vs crovette (youtube)

well I am mainly concerned with the peice of steel everything is mounted to being tiny and clearly hand bendable, then the fact it is held on to thing bosy sheet metal.
Even though the turbo is pretty far down stream the fact that it is literally 1" away from fabric and wood which is in contact with the fuel tank and to top that off the waste gate dumps directly below that. This car is literally a bomb waiting to go off
For maybe $500 more dollars it could have a seperate oil system for the turbo and an actual supportand closed off area from the trunk. hell that tiny turbo could have been fit entirely in the space of one of the stock mufflers and use the OEM heatshielding down there. There are so many forced being put on that small metal bracket and now chopped up trunk sheet metal that its going to fail

My name is Ryan. I did the rear mounted turbo setup in Denver. It feels good to hear others are interested in the 1UZFE. My whole family thought I was insane for spending so much time and money on an old SC400. But I knew I was right. This engine has so much potential!

5.5 is "safe" if u wanna run more then that on that motor u need to upgrade other things... everyone does the 1jz swap because it has been proven to make more power on stock internals... a lot more parts available, etc. if u have a 1uz already i would suggest u stick with it and make wat u can from it... the 1 jz swap will not just slide into ur car like it would on a sc300.

My turbo mods are everything I hoped for. Like Star Trek 1 when they put new warp nacelles on the Enterprise. The car is as reliable as ever. She is a pleasure to drive, and freaking scary now when I put my foot into her.
