did you see any corrosion at the bottom of the lighter? Mine had a small wire which looked like it was in bad shape. I replaced the lighter assembly with bought parts from Vatozone and it has worked perfectly since.

$10 fix

Round plastic piece had a small wires which had the rubber insulator brittle, and the copper wire was a little green.

after seeing the corroded wire, my original plan was to get the after market and use it as a donor for my existing lighter. But as it turned out the pieces were different enough and I damaged some pieces from the original lighter that I could not go ahead with the donor idea. So instead I did replace it.

Before doing this, I searched all over this forum and even created a thread for my questions. There were posts about fuses, and wiring, etc. But in the end, my case was that the lighter was just broken.

Now I can charge the phone and the iPod - Woohoo!!!
