I never understood the purpose of the hood bra

Does it just keep your front end of the car from getting chipped while driving?

Thumbs down

those things are useless... They keep it from the rocks, but then cr*p gets inside them and end up scratching the hell out of your paint.....

they can be used for say, a long highway trip and u remove it right afterwards. it save urself of those damn chips (which is mostly from high speed driving) and it's not on long enuff to let stuff get inside and mess up ur paint.
the key is to put it on correctly and leave it on for short intervals.
problem is, cheapest that i've found for it is $125.

There is a thread around here about the front end protection system that is a 3M Clear plastic. Very good reviews.

i actually need it to cover up a few dents and scratches here and there. the body work is much expensive compared to the hood bra, which is why i was wondering.

Hood bras have been known to strip clear coat on cars and leave tan lines over extended period of time. Plus I think they look ugly. Legends6spd did bring up a good point about long drives. I've had a lot of ***** crap all over my car on the freeway including a half empty water bottle to the windshield, exploding beer bottle to the right bumper, gravel truck gravel storm, exploding fiberglass shards to the undercarriage, runaway muffler (dodged that one!), and a whole host of stray rocks hitting my hood and bumper. I really don't mind that much because I plan on getting an Auto Couture kit eventually, but a bra doesn't sound like that bad an idea for road trips. Expecially since snowboarding season is upon us and I will be making frequent trips up to Tahoe .

They work fine if you remember to not keep it on during car washes on warm days. The big thing is to remove it once in a while and clean the surface. Also, put on a healthy amount of wax on the front just as a good practice. I have one for sale for $50 shipped if you want.

Hermosa,

What condition is the one you have for sale?
What year will it fit? I have a '97 and I'm not sure if previous years would fit it. Please let me know ... Thanks.

It will fit. The hoods were the same for all years.

Hermosa,

Is your mask/bra for the hood only? Doesn't the mask cover the entire front also? As you know, there's a redesign for the grill and front for '97, I remember Colgan Bra ppl told me they don't carry it for my car because it's a '97. Because fit is so important when it comes to the mask, this is something I'd like to get straight...

I have the mask for the entire front but I thought you wanted the hood only? The front end got scraped on the bottom once so I would not sell it. The hood piece is in great condition.
