A full detail (shampoo, polish, wax) on a average sized car could start as lows as $120

I use Meguiar's NXT 2.0 wax on my SC. Occaisonally, I'll use some Meguiar's Ultimate Compound to get out scratches. I don't have a buffer yet, so I haven't had the chance to do a full detail on my car.

I agree, check out the automotive detailing section there is a lot of good information there! I think the detailing shop is trying to get you-$430 wow! No matter what product you end up going with...set aside some time, maybe on a weekend...get you the beverage of your choice and get after it! Elbow grease + dedication= a clean a** ride...most importantly, you'll be able to sit back and admire your work! just my 2 cents! GL

it's actually not that unrealistic. To clean up paintwork takes about 6 hours depending on how thorough the detailer is and the condition of the paint. Average rate is about 50 an hour, so the bill is already at $300. Add in time to clean the interior and then address all the little details you'll easily hit $500.

Yeah even a basic wash cost up to 80 bucks. Detailing adds up but it makes your car look brand new

I detail vehicles for my job in the summer, the majority of cars that i detail are black (including mine). I only use caranuba wax. If you dont have expierience waxing vehicles, start out on a small area and use very minimal wax. Then work your way to the bigger parts as your experience grows.

Btw, The "Ultimate Detail" here at my nearest Lexus dealer is only $249.99. And it includes anything you can think of. Worth it for this price?

- Degrease engine compartment
- Acid wheel wash
- Remove bugs
- Clean door jams and wheel wells
- Hand wash and dry vehicle
- Clay bar, to remove contaminates from the painted surfaces
- High speed buffing to remove light scratches
- Machine polish to exterior
- Apply wax to exterior
- Dress tires and wheel wells
- Touch up rock chips
- Vacuum interior, trunk and luggage compartments
- Thorough cleaning of interior with air tools
- Clean: dash, door panels, and center console
- Clean all leather seats and vinyl surfaces
- Clean windows inside and out
- Pre spot for stain removal
- Clean interior glass
- Steam clean all carpeted surfaces
- Pressure wash carpet floor mats and all weather mats
- Interior air freshener if requested

Full Exterior, Interior, and Engine, plus paint touch up?
That's a good deal IMHO

What Lexus dealership are you getting that price at? That's VERY cheap considering what you get.

Keep in mind, any detail shop that uses top of the line product will NOT cost $120...EVER. If a shop claims to do a full detail for around $100, I wonder what kind of products they're using. A simple wax job, with no type of paint correction or interior work will run you over $150 at a good shop that uses good products.
