Anyone have a fuel injector removal writeup? I was thinking about doing the driver's side injectors today ( the easier side). Because the #1 and #7 seems to be where most of the problems are coming from.

Have you looked in to the fuel pressure regulator opperation? Get a gauge on it and make sure it is within spec when it runs like this.

A bad ecu that has had acid damage from leaking caps will behave like this sometimes by keeping injectors stuck open etc...

The used ecu could have the same problem, opwn up the ecu and check for acid runs under the caps and sometimes they will have a dead fish type of smell when they leak.

But a fuel pressure regulator wouldn't cause specific cylinders to misfire wouuld it?

You know I actually have opened my original ECU and it looks fine inside.
I really don't think it's the ECU now, because it would be quite a coincidence that they both cause the car to the exact same thing, exact same cylinders to miss, etc.

when it's at it's worst removing the #1 and #7 plug wire has no affect on idle. Or sometimes only one of them will have no affect.

Well I would not rule out both ecu's being bad although it is unlikely however if say a cap in the ecu is prone to leaking and it happens to be right above the injector driver trace on the circut board then this could cause it but highly unlikely so here is what I would do next,,,
Take a small socket and extension and tap the bad injectors as it runs to see if it changes how it runs any?

Also get a meter on the said injectors to see that they are within spec.
If you suspect bad injectors then pull them or buy a spare set and send them to witch hunter for a cleaning and flow test.

Fuel filter could for sure be causing problems if it is not changed regularly and if dirt is passing the dirty filter then it makes its way to the filters in the injectors as they each have their own filter on them and most likely this is whats happening causing them to stay open by preventing them from closing all the way etc.

Use a Blue-Point YA3120 Scanner from Snap-On. It will tell you the codes. Afterwards use On-Demand 5 software or ALL DATA software to pull up the code and follow the steps to fix the solution.

That makes sense. I actually ordered some remanufactured injectors. I wouldn't be surprised if the fuel filter had never been changed, so I'll do that as well. When I replaced the plug wires they were the original ones. Well, at least I've done a whole tune up, now hopefully the injectors take care of the issue.

Oh, and the shop said the injectors were getting electrical current just fine, but listening to them something was internally not functioning correctly. I'm going to try tapping on them and see if it changes the idle at all.

Well it's finally running good. Took it to the guy who did my suspension, and the main culprit ended up being the injector wiring harness connectors were screwed up.

No problem.

Sure explains how intermittent it was, disappearing for weeks at a time. It was driving me crazy haha. It runs great now though.

Thought I'd update this. A few weeks late the car started acting up again.

There ended up being an issue with the wiring harness / connections at the ECU for the injectors. I've had it back in a couple times and the problem still is not 100% fixed. It will run good for a period of time then gradually start misfiring again. It did it again today, and I actually unbolted the ECU and set it on the floor, and the car seemed to run better. It's small movements that seem to affect how the car runs.

The shop seems to be half assing it saying I may need to just replace the ENTIRE wiring harness instead of just fixing the damn connections. Any advice?

Also do any of the wires come from the factory with tape around them, because I noticed some on the harness do.

I know when I pulled my ECU to inspect the caps each of the 3 plugs connecting to the ECU were wrapped with some sort brittle cloth like tape.
Under the hood should be intermittent tape concealed in the wire loom (at least for mine)

Still trying to get this figured out. This is what the mechanic emailed to me. He wants to just replace the entire wiring harness, but that seems overkill to me.

"The plug that have the injector drivers going to the ECU doesn't have a good contact because somebody at one point in time broke the retaining tab for the plug. We tried to make it work and stay together but evidently it still comes loose or make a bad contact. There's a chance that it needs a different injector harness."

Does this make sense to anyone here, and does it sound like an easy fix, or would replacing the harness be the best route?

All of the tabs on my injector clips are broken off and I have never had this problem. They slide on and stay on.
