Check your trunks.... before its too late.
Up until now... I'd been patting myself on the back about my car being rust free. I don't know why, but for whatever reason I didnt peek under the trunk carpet when I bought it. The exterior, wheel wells and all that jazz were so rust free I just ASSumed the trunk was clean. WRONG.
I was busy pulling out the defunct CD changer when suddenly I saw:

The drivers side air vent area is clean. What appears to have happened was someone, at some point, worked back in that passenger air vent area. They knocked the drain tubes out of their holes and it was just pouring water into that well. It mustve sloshed over into the spare tire well. The spare steel wheel is so rusted on the lip I consider it unsafe and trashed it. Big chunks were missing on the bead.
I spent 3 hours tonight cleaning and using rust converter. Once its bone dry I'll then use Rust Bullet (a product I like, but there are many others) to coat the trunk to stop the rust.
Glad I caught it now before it got beyond surface rust! Oh well, you can't win them all.
