Default What would you do?

So I am in need of brakes really bad and I have been getting mixed reviews on drilled and slotted rotors.. I found an SC with drilled and slotted rotors at the junkyard and I am interested in buying them today.. The junkyard is selling the whole brake system ( i mean everything) for 100.00 .. I think it's a steal, but people are telling me to avoid drilled rotors?

Would you go for it because of the great price, or skip out and save the trouble?

Drilled rotors are pointless, just for looks, there is no performance upgrade.
Factory blanks are more than enough for street cars.
If you must have upgraded rotors go slotted only.

The best way to increase braking performance is a set of aggressive pads and a nice set of sticky tires.

Drilled: holes cause stress cracks, loss of contact surface compared to same blank of slotted rotor.

Slotted: better contact surface compared to drilled rotors, slots help clean pads.

For $100 you are nearly able to buy a set of blanks and a good set of pads.

since i just went this route...i do regret not buying drilled/slotted rotors.
yes only for looks but thats what i wanted..i do have a set of aggressive pads that work great and went with a blank rotor and dont like the looks of it..

if you dont track your car then the drilled/slotted rotors shouldnt be a problem from what ive found/read....i did read like schema is saying they can crack etc..but usually only under harsh conditions provided by tracking the car..
(also not these are the cheaper drilled/slotted rotors that start out as blanks and are actually drilled instead of the ones that come on high end mercedes etc that are cast with the holes already in them..those are apparently the right and stronger way to do them)
my next set i buy when i get a bbk setup with be with drilled/slotted rotors

Yeah I have a couple hardcore mechanics in the family and they said it was fine, but I want to take the most beneficial route.. I'm going to buy them and install them, but if they arte not what i want I'll sell them on here! lol i bet some sc's on here would like a set of drilled and slotted rotors

I did, but all of the ls400's over here are beat to death.. that was why i originally went to the junkyard.. i found a set of front toyota supra slotted rotors, but the junkyard wanted 100 just for the fronts..

I have drilled and slotted rotors, they do nothing but eat your pads up faster. Not to mention the ebay ones are complete crap which will rust in a matter of weeks. Get yourself a good set of LS400 calipers with LS400 blanks. Maybe get TT rear calipers and rotors if you really need to stop

if its only 100 bucks you might as well. Like you said, if you dont like it you can always ditch them. I opted for LS400 fronts with slotted irotors, didnt spend much at all and they seem to work ok.

Why would you even go to a junk yard for brake rotors? I can see paying that much for ls400 calipers, but rotors no way. Read post #2, buy new rotors and pads with ls calipers, you'll end up spending $$ resurfacing the used rotors anyway. Brakes are something you dont want to mess with, do it right the first time.
You are driving a Lexus right?
