Default Exhaust Help Please

Ok, I have made my mind up to get an new exhaust for my car. I don't really want to spend $1,000 for an exhaust though. I have a 98 SC3 and would love any suggestions people might have in terms of what would be a good route to take. I am open any ideas. Thanks!

unless I had at least that much to spend on an exhaust,I guess I wouldn't mess with it,serously.
How about some tips?

I've had custom piping done with Magnoflow mufflers. They sound pretty good, but I have a V8 so I couldn't guarantee the same sound on your '98. I've had them welded into the stock piping at first, then reworked with larger, straighter pipes and I'll tell you the bigger pipes give a deeper, throatier sound than stock. I'll probably have the piping redone AGAIN with true dual cat, dual pipes once I've researched it more thoroughly.
