Default question about 1JZ's turbo

Hi guys
I had bought the Soarer JZZ30 about 2 months ago. So excited as it is my first turbo car. Please excuse for my lack of turbo tech.

The question that i want to ask is that is it normal to have whistling noise everytime the turbo kicked in or spooled up. I am pretty sure it was not cause by the BOV. As I did a bit of search and people advice to check hoses around the turbo's area, since there may be leaks somewhere. I did performed the inspection, however they presented no signs of leaking. Please advice, what should i do? Thanks in advance

do you have a boost gauge? How much boost is it making currently? Stock intercooler? Could be boost leaking out of poorly connected I/C piping, a leaking BOV, or leaking wastegate hoses. It's either that or you're just hearing normal spool up. a vid would be helpful though

I have a feeling what your hearing is the turbo's spooling, which as Stick said, is normal. Had people tell me they could hear my turbo from several blocks away.

Hi guys
Above is the link to my video. Sound is not that great as i recorded from my iphone. Hopefully it is just a normal sound when turbo spools up( lack of experiences). One of other thing that i had noticed was that at idle, i revved the car pass the kick-in rpm (~3000 rpm or so), that whistling noise did not exist. Sorry guys, as i am still learning more about turbo engine, please excuse for my newbie. Thank you

whistling most commonly signals boost leak.

check hoses throughly.

check the plastic boost pipe that runs from the intercooler to the engine
