Default Really annoyed.....

alright for some reason very specific and unusual problems happen to my car. this freakin time its the motor....

symptoms:
-runs really rough after warming up
-puffs of white smoke comes out of exhaust
-white smoke cloud gets worse while driving

and here is what is confusing, no over heating, oil is with in limits, and coolant is leveled off. No blown head gasket.

am I missing something.
its a 5spd.

sounds like water is somehow getting into your cylinders. Water in the gas tank?

Excess gasoline (too rich) will NOT be black smoke, it will be white! Search here for many, many references to this symptom on these cars. Here's a random one:

https://www.clublexus.com/forums/per...mely-rich.html

and another (not so random) one:

https://www.clublexus.com/forums/per...f-exhaust.html

Isnt a bad ECU one of the big signs of white smoke on start up?

i had a bad ecu last year as well. what are the chances of a bad ecu happening twice in a row on the same car? and when that happened it was running rich giving off black smoke.

ill try the suggestions posted. Hopefully i can attempt a ECU reset instead of getting a new ECU. how could a car go through 2 ECUs in less than a year?

How many miles on the car? You might have a slow head gasket leak, if it is, then it's a matter of time.
But it's probably your ecu

I'm having the exact same issue, I can only presume it's the head gasket, I guess I'll have to do a compression test to find out, I suggest you do the same and see how it results.

OK....now i feel like i am in the twilight zone. Well today I reset the ecu and when retrying it, the same thing was happening, cool I expected that. So i had a 5spd ecu sitting around from when i did my w58 swap, I figured i could use that one instead of buying an auto ecu and just do the bypass mod. After switching the ecu from auto to 5spd, just for the hell of it i tried to crank the car......it started....and not only did it start it was idling smooth and also revving smooth all while holding a steady normal operating temp. So fixed right....NOPE still white smoke, not as much as before but it still smokes. WTF?

this weekend ill do the compression test since a blown headgasket is the only other thing i can think of with the help from you guys...but if it is that...why no over heating? even if a slow leak then the motor would be running hotter than normal operating temp.... i am stumped...
