Hi,

I just purchased a used 92 SC400 a few days ago. At first the sound system worked fine other than the LR speaker had no sound at all. The remaining three and the subwoofer worked fine.

Today the only sound that somes out is a continuous thumping noise. It sounds exactly like someone tapping their finger on the microphone of a PA system. The sound isn't altered by any settings on the head unit, including the volume.

I suspect this means the remote amplifier has suddenly died. Has anyone had their system fail in this manner? From other posts I gather that replacing the amplifier is cost prohibitive.

 

I have posted this in the electronics section which might be a better spot. Please reply there if you have suggestions.

Sounds like the speaker shorted the headunit out, disconnect that LR speaker and see if the sounds come back.
