DO IT!!! I love my VVTi V8 and u can always swap your mods over to a new car when u feel the need for boost. You will be much happier with the V8 over the 6cyl for the time being since u have to wait a couple years for the turbo...

Anything else I should look for or asking when I go check out a 400?
Power Steering, Idle Air Control, Engine ECU, HVAC Display, worn control arm bushings, sway bar links, struts. What's the easiest or best way to test the above items if they are bad or faulty or about to go?
burnt out needles
cracked vents
black lcd display
window regulators
popping door hinges

Ok I went and took a look at the car. It was in pretty good shape, but did have a 6in long key mark on the drivers side door, a ding on the roof and some dings on the back bumper. I guess he is the third owner and he bought it from an auction from the east coast and is a smoker. The exhaust also sounded loud or weird and he said it was because there was a leak or from one of the exhaust pipes. It also needed its timing belt replaced soon. What do you guys think?

Well, if you're ultimate ambition is to swap for a GTE, you have to reconsider the priority of engine and mileage. Why worry about an engine if you're only going to put a few thousand miles into it anyway?
On another note, I think it's funny though not surprising that the SC 300 was intended to be a budget SC, but the aftermarket took to it more easily and to some degree, it has developed an image different from the "top of the line" SC 400 which was more of the gentlemens' GT cruiser.

if it was me i'd be like ehh..im gonna change the exhause anyways to soudn like redphoenix's lol..and that back bumper would be coming off anyways for a vertex kit...dings n dents can be repaired when its at the shop with the body kit...my major concern with it though from the jump would be maintenance....make sure it is all kept up and then go mod crazy..

well yeah a timing belt is not something to be screwed with on a late model sc4- the motors are interference. Was it in otherwise really good condition? Looked that way from the photos. Fortunately white is a pretty forgiving color- you can probably have that key mark repaired for not too much. Offer $7k and get it done
