Call the DMV in your area but if you are going to use the tag you have now, you should be able to use it as it will be transfered to the new car.You must have proof of insurance.

you have 30 days to transfer plates to new vehicle as long and the vehicle that the plates came off of has been sold!

Thats my thought.. Just have insurance in your name, bill of sale, with 2 witnesses and dont worry about a tag, till you get back to LA! When you get back, you will have 30 days to register it and get a tag. I just went through this on another car. If you get pulled over, like I did, just have the paperwork ready. Its no BIG deal.

exactly but then again just drive smart and check to make sure everything works!
