Default Antenna Motor / Antenna Swap

Well my antenna motor is dead and it gets on my nerves quite a bit, whenever I shut the car off or turn it on i hear that annoying buzzing of the motor trying to raise or retract the antenna and just slipping doing nothing. So I was thinking that I'm going to buy one of those black rubber coated stub antennas that you can get from PepBoys and other such parts stores. I want to switch to this small stub style because I think the factory one looks very awkward and out of place on the car.
Before I start to attempt my swap out from the factory antenna to the stub antenna i'd like some opinions about whether you guys think my radio reception will take a huge hit, whether it would look decent, how hard you guys think it'll be to swap out, and lastly....

Would enough people be interested in doing this antenna swap that it's even worth me taking pictures and doing a write up of a DIY?

For a piece of rubber and metal, those seem like kinda outrageous prices.

But anyway it seems like I have enough takers in only about a days time that it would be worth trying my alternative and writing up a DIY, so within the next week maybe 2 weeks max. I should have somethin to post up about it.

I had the stubby installed and it was stolen in NYC(manhattan) lol, it was a screw on afterall and I parked near a school so I can see why that happened. Anyways I just bought an interanal and had it installed for 50 bucks so no more issues on the streets
