i think a single turbo'd 2JZ would be your best bet, although i know you said it wasnt going to be that. Only other thing I can think of is TT'ing the V8, But that seems like too much work and too much money.
You could always go crazy and look for m5/m6 V10 if you have the funds. There are a couple motorsets at a local junk yard around here and its going for around 10k...
