Well, since you said you would want to boost it in the future, get the SC300. More options, better aftermarket support, and would be cheaper than trying to boost the 1UZ in the SC400.

Is there any thing that a should beware of when buying one? Like any known issues with certain years or anything? And as far as boost its a BIG maybe I say I would like to but prob never would. Mainly wanting to have fun in it and make it look good.

Don't think toyota ever mated the 1uz to a manual transmission, but the w58 adapter has been made and is fairly cheap to make the 1uz manual, look for RedPhoenix's build, he posted earlier in this thread.

You dont have to do anything if you get the 400, (maybe thats just cause i have 1...hmm) but if you have the money it would seem cheaper just to buy a new IS 350 instead of dump loads of cash on a older car. imo of course

Well just went to look at a 300 and 400. The 300 was white and tan my favorite combo. They said that it had been garage kept and it was really clean it also only had 108 k miles on it. So I go and drive it and it doesn't look like it's ever been in a garage. And the inside was nasty and it was not a clean car at all! Then I pulled up to look at the 400 and it was the biggest pos ever! To much to list about that one. So the hunt is still on.

People are always talking the 2JZ... How much money are you gonna lay on this car? Stock for stock, put the 2JZ GE next to the 1UZ cruising at 40 and see what happens...

If you have dough, maybe it's right to get the SC300... Other than that the SC300 has nothing on the 400...

Default A few options..

A few options available. 98-00 sc400 vvti 290-300hp supercharged to 400rwhp is easier to obtain than a sc300 na't to get to those numbers. If you want 500-600rwhp go sc300 na-t or tt swap of course. If you're not modifying at all, get any yr. sc400 but even best 98-00 vvti version with a 30-40hp addition and a smoother ride, but sc300 would handle better. Just IMO after having driven 92, 95 sc300's, and presently 98vvti sc400. Both just as reliable in stock form, and low maintenance. But sc300 you get a mass amount of goodies to play around with the motor even if you aren't going FI. Sc400 is very limited and more supercharged friendly than turbo if you are going to FI it. I think it's also more nitrous'd than sc300, particularly in 92-94 form with thicker rods. Sc300 is the luxury Supra Coupe of the Toyota Supra MKIV, both with a 2jz motor and with all interchangeable engine and suspension parts. I also feel that the sc300 feels more sportier to drive than sc400. And 1 more thing, in stock form, vvti sc300 will beat any non-vvti sc300. Again, this all is just IMO. Good luck with your search.

Forgot to mention, when you sit inside a sc300 or 400, pay special attention to both interior window trims. Make sure there are no cracks or tears on the leather trims as this will annoy the hell out of you. And also check the plastic vents for cracks, especially the center one. Open and close both drv and pass windows a few times and listen for play just when you hit the on or off switch. Sometimes this can indicate a bad window regulator on the way, which a lot of 10yr old Lexus' seem to experience. Not that it's all that hard to replace or anything, thanks to all the answers form CL members, but try and minimize repairs on a used car.
