Question Diff centre replacement

Hello Folks,
I have a Torsen LSD centre from a 1997 Supra MK4 RZ TT 6 Speed Manual Transmission. It is 8" (dont know what this is exactly). I am planning to replace my open diff with this one.

I would like to know what other bits are required to do this? I could not find any tutorial with images about the steps to do this replacement using the search button. If any of you guys have undertaken this before please could you throw in some pics and info about your work.

Thanks

Looks like this diff is a B03B torsen and the final drive ratio seems to be 3.2:1. I am having contradicting views from different member on the forum whether this would fit into the diff casing or not. Has anybody done this? Please send me some info and pics for this.
Thanks

You never told us what you have.

If you have a SC or an automatic supra... I'm sorry but a 6 speed diff will not work.

The 6 speed supra diff is a completely different animal.

Your diff is a torsen auto diff. 10 bolt ring gear - 8.0"(203mm) (a type)

This is a torsen 6 speed diff. 12 bolt ring gear - 8.7"(221mm) (b type)

Since you actually have an auto diff there. It will work.

The 6 speed diff case is longer than the auto.

The 6 speed diff case is narrower by 11.4mm.

Thank you Michael. Love this forum for all the efforts guys like you put in to answer queries.

I was told the series B torsen wont fit, but as you clarified to me that this is series A one. I am happy that I dont need to sell this and it will fit my auto.

Thank you very much once again.

I would like to know the other parts I require to do this conversion like side bearings, side/front seals, shims etc etc.

nice find. I'd be interested in trying a 3.2:1 final drive ratio. Where did you get that ring gear from?

I doubt that his ring gear really is 3.26. It's most likely 3.76, it's possible that it's 4.08 but it would be rare.

Toyota never put a 3.26 ring gear on a torsen diff AFAIK.

I have read that you can find 3.26 axle ratio in LS400/430, gs400/430 and sc430.

I've read conflicting views that sc430 has either a 3.26 or 3.77 axle ratio.

That is the highest ratio R&P that I know of that fits the A series diffs.

Default See those yellow marks on the pinion flange?

They're there for a reason. Make sure you mark your driveshaft and the diff and put it back in exactly as it comes out.

The driveshaft must be 'in phase' to reduce vibration. The entire drive line is balanced at the factory.

Michael, thanks for the reply. I managed to find a mechanic who is interested to do this work but I need to get all the right parts for him. As this is a japanese import and there are only a handful (prob < 7) of these in scotland, the mechanic is unable to get the right parts for doing this job.

Is it possible for you to specify what parts are required apart from the diff centre to do this replacement. I suppose there would be some non reusable parts that needs replacing like pinion seals or bearings etc

Thanks

Ok I'm feeling generous... IN EXCHANGE, when I come to Scotland for a visit or to see a rally sometime,
you've gotta pick me up at the airport and show me around!!

LSD Install kit (PTR04-00026)

(10) Ring gear bolts 90105-12219

(2) O ring 90301-96003

(2) Dust Cover 41336-24030

(2) Snap ring 90521-34003

(2) Oil Seal 90311-47008

(2) Side Bearing 90366-50033

These parts will do if you are just swapping the diff.

If you aren't using your stock ring gear, you'll have to swap the pinion. You'll also need:

(1) Dust deflector

(1) Oil Seal

(1) Oil Slinger

(1) Drive Pinion Front Bearing

(1) Drive Pinion Rear Bearing

Thank you for you reply. This will help me solve the issue with my diff. I suppose this is the list of parts I need while changing my diff centre, not the whole diff.

This is the least I could do PM me when you are coming over to Scotland.

That list should cover everything to swap out the guts of your differential.

To take the diff housing, or pumpkin we like to call it, out of the car, there are no replacement parts necessary. The axles unbolt from the stub shafts and the driveshaft unbolts from the pinion flange. Just make sure you mark them and put them back exactly as they came out.

Then there are 3 large allen head bolts that hold back of the diff housing to the cross member and two large hex bolts that hold the ears of the diff housing into the chassis.
