Removing heat shield?

Has anybody taken off the heat shields from the stock twins on the 1/2jzs?
Does the engine bay get significantly hotter without the shield?

I did the ebay Y pipe and the heat shield doesn't fit. I haven't noticed any hotter temps, but I'm sure it is a lot hotter. I've been thinking about trimming it to fit.
