Sc300 mpg

Im gonna get a 93 tomorrow and was wondering how many MPGs your SCs gets.
list mods too
thanks

jefferino 08-06-09 03:24 PM

right now...10 if I am lucky. Before, they are supposed to get combined 18mpg.

Confusion 08-06-09 03:31 PM

is that stock? 18mpg

jefferino 08-06-09 03:41 PM

That is what the cash for clunkers website says. The combined mpg is 18. I was curious so I looked it up. 10 is with my 1j and me having a hard time not standing on it quite often :)

jimmyXthai 08-06-09 03:58 PM

my dash says i get 22.7 average mpg

Confusion 08-06-09 04:25 PM

cool thanks guys,
I was also wondering since I came from driving a manual
dont really understand the auto trans.
what is the o/d for? and when should I use it?
and the switch where it says power and normal

theory5150 08-06-09 05:42 PM

Dash is at 20.9 mpg

Confusion 08-06-09 06:13 PM

any known mods to increase MPGs?

horent135 08-06-09 08:05 PM

my 95 got like 20 or less, now i got 98, dash say 24!!

rawdil49 08-06-09 08:06 PM

i consistently get 23mpg with my 5speed

rykwebb 08-06-09 08:07 PM

I've gotten 400 miles to a tank before, no joke, it was exactly 400 but eh...which makes it 19ish.

*mods in sig*

howat 08-06-09 08:41 PM

I get around 25 miles to the gallon in my 1998 sc300. Lots of highway driving and not much gunning the throttle.

With a tank of gas, I can typically hit over 400 miles.

IOWNALEXUS 08-06-09 08:54 PM

I average 25 mpg with city and highway using cruise and not driving it hard, i get around 28-29 mpg all highway driving averaging 70 mph. 97 SC300 automatic all stock except for a K&N filter. Sounds like some of you need the lighter right foot mod and a good tune up.

Mod to increase MPG would be dont drive it hard, its slow anyway so no need to dog it, use cruise and stay at a steady speed, a good tune up will help also.

o/d is OVERDRIVE use it on the highway or anytime over 45 mph, just leave it on and let it shift itself and you will get better economy, the POWER button shifts the tranny at a higher RPM than NORMAL does if you need to accelerate onto a ramp etc... ive NEVER used this as its not necessary for normal driving and will hurt fuel economy. (i also think the light in the cluster is annoying)

nefariousd 08-06-09 08:56 PM

im lucky if i hit 250 miles on a full tank

mk4r34 08-06-09 09:07 PM

I avg.21-23 miles city/hwy about 350 to the tank in my 5sp 93'...Im light on the throttle...every once in awhile I'll open up the throttle getting on the hwy..only mod is an Injen intake on staggered 18"...I still have yet to use my cruise control or take it on long trips though..

THANKS guys, I knew I was bound to get a post about getting another car, it wouldn't hurt to know the mpg lol

it's a 93 with 43k miles, will it need a tune up?

250 a tank???...damn...what mods you running??

shajbot 08-06-09 09:38 PM

Cruise control can actually decrease mpg. You see, the car with cruise control on will try to stay at the speed even if it's going up hill, it will and can depress that pedal to the floor if it is needed to maintain the speed.

damn...maybe it needs a good tune up??..plugs,wires,rotor etc??..sounds like just build up in the engine?..maybe it's mostly city use?I just don't see how you can't get at least 300+ to a tank..

Very true, however MOST people don't pay enough attention while driving to maximize fuel economy and they weave in and out of traffic speeding up and slowing down, flooring it light to light and slamming on brake's instead of trying to time the light so you dont have to stop etc...and from what kind of milage i see others in here are getting using cruise would be a HUGE improvement.

v-empire 08-07-09 05:36 AM

fully stock motor- 245/40/18s
200k miles on motor.

21-23 mpg, on 87oct pump, when i drive full tank till gas light flashes on a trip- all highway

16-17 mpg regular driving- hwy and city combined.

Jeembo 08-07-09 06:36 AM

I get anywhere from 20-25 with a mixture of highway and city driving. Mine's a '99 though so it'll be ahead of the curve as far as mileage goes.

Anyone know what it could be thats giving me such low mpg??? its a stock motor with about 145,000 on it and i did a tune up with wires, plugs all done. I live in NY so stop and go traffic is inevitable but i have a light foot with this car because i want this car to last.

howat 08-07-09 08:22 AM

Did you do the tune up yourself, or a reputable shop with trained professionals?

I'd recommend the basics first, such as regular oil change (don't matter if it's synthetic or not), clean air filter, good tire pressure, etc.
Also double and triple check for leaks. Oil leaks are easy to ID, however air leaks more difficult to identify.

As a 2nd phase, try an induction service cleaning. It should cost @ 100 to 150 bucks. This is when the carbon deposits are removed by very strong solvents, which allows for smoother and less restrictive air flow through the intake system.

i did the tune up with a reputable shop here in NY and did everything including a induction service cleaning. I know i have a minor leak in bottom oil pan i believe its the gasket and i still get crappy mpg!!! idk wut it can be:confused:

RjBLayz 08-07-09 11:19 AM

I get anywhere from 365-400 on my 99sc300...all stock

OneJay 08-07-09 11:28 AM

I usually get 22-24 in my 1jz. And usually around 400 miles to a full tank.

whodaman18 08-07-09 12:18 PM

smaller wheels for city driving and larger wheels for highway i believe will help gas mileage. but who wants 14in wheels on their soarer :P

lfrers 08-07-09 12:47 PM

18mpg on a Na-T here.
Thats a lot of freeway driving but I do get on it a lot.

turbodremz 08-07-09 01:08 PM

16 to 22 mpg na-t..depending on what kind of mood im in..the way I was driving earlier though, I might have been getting 9mpg..

RedNeckLex 08-07-09 08:43 PM

I just clocked a 2,123 mile trip over the last week with my 97' SC300 with 170,000+ miles on it..all stock engine. Dash reads 26.2mpg average, with average speed of 58.2mph. This was with A/C blowing and running 70-80mph on the highway which covered 1,700 miles of my trip. Now around town here at home I get 18mpg combined city/highway. But that just driving back and forth to work during the week.

dunahoo 08-07-09 08:55 PM

ive had roughly 24mpg on my 93 sc300.... i thought i was getting around 14mpg but then i began to do the math when i would fill up instead of assuming i was empty around 18.5gal... apparently i can drive alot more before my gas light turns on

xknowonex 08-07-09 11:45 PM

I can get 300+ on mostly city streets per full tank

If I fill up then hop on the freeway and cruise at 55-65 with some light traffic and cruise until I go empty, I can probably squeeze out more than 350?

in soviet california, 18 wheeler run over you.:p

man i get 15 to the gallon with 99.9% city driving, and this that i have a 99 SC300. then again 20 inch rims hurt my mileage ratings:cry:

TURBO819 08-08-09 09:55 AM

City / Highway 25 / 75

I get about 19.19 mpg with City / Highway 25 / 75. So that would be about 395 Miles Per Tank. I am using a W58 with the (Automatic) 4:27 Final Drive . Gas miles could be better. If I used the W58 with the (Manual) 4.08 Final Drive. All in all gas miles are about the same as before the engine swap because I had the same transmission Combo

Anthony85 08-08-09 09:59 AM

my car comes in like im driving and old chrevy or something with my gas mileage....

Yeah, ever since I had the car I never did the plugs, wires, cap and rotor. It runs fine its just I'm getting POOR gas mileage. My main commute is all city and I do about 15 miles a day. My buddy gets better MPG with his 1JZ, so he says..
