Also be known, if you do blow a 2JZGE (sc300 motor), u can pick em up all day long for around $100 each from the people that 1JZGTE or 2JZGTE motorswap. I have two i cant rid of, both in 100% perfect mechanical running condition.

My Javelin is my race car. I am looking more for a hop in a drive kinda car, so modifications arent really all that important. My Mustang was a fun toy but I keep putting more money into it between upgrades and gas to warrant keeping it anymore.

Both motors will last as long as you maintain them. If you intend on modifying your motor, you would be more lenient to the 6 cyl but if you want an already quick car, go with the V8.

Which do you prefer? SC300 or SC400?
Right now I am leaning toward the SC300 because it comes with the option of a 5 speed manual and it has the legendary 2JZ-GE inline 6 engine which I am sure I could mod up to the hp levels I would like to achieve. Anyone have a good arguement for the SC400 though? I read where that engine is also very strong and is run in the 24hrs Rolex race event.
Also, how much do you suspect I will pay for an SC300 with manual? The edmunds pricing is around 4-7k in the 1992-1997 range which are the only years available with the manual. To me those prices seem kind of low.

The 1UZ has definitely got more punch versus a stock NA-2JZ..Gas mileage, as mentioned, is relatively the same. The V8 will have a slight advantage in this category. Both motors are built to last and will still purr like its brand new even at 200k on the odo.
I haven't been reading up on the price range for 5 speeds lately but they do hold their value well.. KBB & Edmonds usually have it right..
If you don't plan on going boost then the obvious answer is getting a the 400.

If you are not mechanically incline I would recommend purchasing a sc300 as a sc400 will cost you more to fix/maintain. Generally mechanics will charge more for a tune-up, oil change etcwith a V8. The sc400 has a much bigger engine but performance is not much better than a sc300 as you only get an xtra 20 hp with the sc400 (92-96) I have a 300 but an old buddy had a 400 and a tune up was much more expensive on the 400. Think long term maintaince costs buddy.
