Just got a State Ref but picked up something new !
You Coloradonians don't have a State Referee. Here in California if you get pulled over and cited for having illegal modifications or modified smog devices you get a fix it ticket. The thing that makes this different from a regular fix it ticket is that it can only be signed off by a State Referee at a Referee station most commonly found at your local college or community college. When you take your vehicle into these stations they have to be able to pass the visual inspection, the sound test if you have a modified exhaust, and last but definitely not least is the smog. All intakes and headers have to have C.A.R.B numbers or some type of certificate showing that it is legal and smog friendly to have on your vehicle. Note that when you get sent to these stations you have to pay them to smog your vehicle. Once it passes all the inspections your ticket can then be signed off. Once signed off you have to pay the newly increased fix it ticket fines on top of the smog fee.
If you've got an aftermarket exhaust and it tests out under 93 decibels but you don't have any documentation that shows that it tests under 93, they can provide you with a sticker that they usually stick behind the original citation. So the next time you get pulled over for having a modified exhaust you can simply show them the Referee sticker and they will let you off the hook.
These 5Zigens are great because they are J.A.S.M.A. approved meaning they are environmentally friend mufflers that do not produce a lot of noise pollution. When you buy them new they come with a certificate of authenticity that provides you with all that neat info. A lot of race cars in Japan are beginning to purchase more and more J.A.S.M.A. approved exhausts.
