Default can leaky shocks be offset by good coils

6,000 miles into ownership, my car handles like crap. My mechanic said yesterday that my shocks were leaking (news to me). I was quoted $1500 for parts and labor. Would a good set of coilovers and new control arms possibly offset or greatly reduce the harsh ride of leaking/bad shocks?

um, $1500??? you could probably get it done at the dealer cheaper than that... even like KYB retails at about $600 for all 4 shocks, then labor should be $200-$400, plus alignment (which will need done with your LCA's anyways)...
