Question Timing Belt Question

How do I know if my timing belt needs replacement? Is it in a place where I can see it? to check for cracks, etc

Its under the black covers on the top front of the engine....not the long skinny ones that run down the length of the heads, but the arched ones at the front of the heads. I've never had my covers off, but it shouldn't be too hard to get 'em off and look at it.

Real easy to take those off, a few 10mm bolts and you're set.
