HELLO THERE I HAVE A 96 SC400 AND WHEN I PUT IT IN REVERSE I HEAR A CLICK OR CLUNK ON THE REAR AT TIMES WHEN THE CAR MOVES INTO GEAR IF IT DOESNT MAKE THE CLICK I CAN MASH THE BRAKE AND TORQUE IT UP AND I CAN HEAR THE CLICK DOES THIS SOUND LIKE MY REAR AXLE OR U JOINT IVE HAD THIS CAR FOR ABOUT 3 YEARS AND HAVE BEEN DRIVING IT HARD ITS PRACTICALLY STOCK AND RUNS 14.6 WITH A K&n AND MUFFLER DELETE NOTE THE MUFFLERS WERE DELETED WHEN I BOUGHT THE CAR PREVIOUS OWNER HAD RACE MUFFLERS ON IT AND THE DEALER CUT THEM OF AND PUT PIPE IN PLACE OF MUFFLER
Could be few things, the driveshaft flexible couplings could be splitting, causing some play, rear tranny mount could be split, could be something as simple as brakes.
I've had numerous "complaints" of clunk/chirp while putting into gear, it was just the slightest free play in the rear brake pads tightening up against the rotors and making that metallic resonating groan.
my bad for yelling ill just have to disassemble my rear pads and check them out i turned the rotors and installed wagner thermoquiet pads when i first bought the car
