Exhaust Advice
I'M THINKING OF INSTALLING EXHAUST ON MY SC400, I'M CONSIDERING BLITZ , BORLA OR ROD MILLEN ANY THOUGHTS ON THIS ? H.P. SOUND OVERALL PERFORMANCE ? ANY SUGESTIONS?
You're looking at literally a couple hp with any of those three systems, the oe mufflers on US-spec models are basically straight through, the primary restriction is in the front section of the exhaust. Talk to RedSC400, he has the Blitz NUR-Spec system, which is the one I would recommend over the other two. None of those three systems have an obtrusive sound, so you can boil it down to cost, availability, and looks. Hey, where in NY are you?

Every section that I've removed and looked through has been straight through, but haven't checked out the cats right on the manifolds. After starting the car with the sections removed,it's always sounded pretty quiet,so there may well be some restriction in the cats, just haven't felt the urge to remove them, since it'd be alot of work, and replacements would be $200+, would also be a disappointment if they didn't last long.
the blitz is an axle-back exhaust... this is not a full catback
the two cat-backs that i know of are the Greddy MX and the JIC Twin-spartan exhaust...
there's more restriction in front of the cats however, if you want more power; something will have to be done about them

BEAN,
I went to the muffler shop and the guys there had
5 diff pipes that would fit my car and at least 10 diff
style mufflers that they said would fit . I don't want to get that
mustang sound, I like to get performance and a Ferrari tone.
any ideas?

LEX,
yes thats where I went , when I told them what car I had they
said they had a better alternative to bolt on units like blitzs. rmm, etc. but they didn't have something specific for my car, only universal applic. do you think its wise?, thats they only place in Queens, besides Speedworld I know

DO AWAY WITH ALL THAT CRAP!!! just do custom mendrel (<<what ever the hell that is, you gusy know what i mean) piping.--No cats, no muffler--straight through!!! (with exhaust tip of course)
keep stock ones for smog check!!
--just a suggestion...
if i get my Supra TT then thats what im going to do. (cops are gonna pull you over if they see that muffler anyways...

Problem is when putting straight pipes on a car its a bit too loud... especially on a V8
SC400NYC, you don't have to worry about the mustang sound; just don't buy their kind of mufflers
There are two types of mufflers I recommend:
What I now have of course, which is a Dynomax Ultraflow knockoff
and a Apex'i N1 universal
The dynomax will come out cheaper; but the apex mufflers are very nice. The size of the piping is up to you... I'd recommend at least 2.5" with no resonators
3" would provide the ferrari tone you're looking for...
again, don't use any resonators unless you want it quiet... the ferrari sound can be had with twin apex N1s or the dynomax and 2.5" or 3" dual piping...
I've got a 3" single on my car with a dynomax ultraflow knockoff muffler; all resonators were removed... sounds sweet as fricken hell and i can chirp 3rd gear now on occassion. I also busted up on a IS3 REALLY bad.
My piping is pressbent as there was no mandrel bender anywhere within 500miles. The guy I had do my car does excellent work and it had very minimal bends.
