Default Questions about SC400 fuel system

First off, this all started because of really poor idling and a code 78.

Is the fuel pump supposed to prime every time you turn the ignition on?

Do both the fuel rails have a regulator on it? I see two or one that looks like one. The reason I ask, is because the one on the throttle body side, Im cannot blow through it at all, with or with out vacuum.

What is the part that sticks up inside the middle of the upper intake plenum that sits behind the throttle body? A fuel line goes to it and it acts as an injector. Is it some sort of start primer? Im just wondering because it was really clogged.

Thats it for now...thanks guys!!

Yes. You won't know if you use the stock fuel pump. You can only hear it priming with a larger capacity fuel pump. However, it should start right away because the fuel is always present in the line.

The regulator is on the passenger side because it has the vacuum line.

I don't remember what it is. It could be the vacuum hose for the brake master cylinder.

It does not really need much priming, it keeps a pretty good one since the regulator is on the return side. That what you have on your passenger side, the one on the drivers side is just a pulsation damper. You should not be able to blow through the regulator. Unless you put 40+ psi on it, the vacuum line is just for rising rate. It has a diaphragm in it that raises up under heavy acceleration and lets more fuel through. You shouldn't be able to block through that either. Unless you blowing through the hose going to the intake manifold, it should be free that way...
