The original 92-96 grill looks much better in my opinion! I think they ruined the lines of the hood by adding the grill. The original bumper is smooth and more aerodynamic, and makes the front end flow much better.

The justification from Lexus was more airflow to the engine.

WOO HOO is the justification for anyone buying one

Don't have to; but it looks much more complete with them. The 97+ are the roundish ones, the pre-97 little squarish deals.

Wouldn't look right because......

So no, it would not look right.

Not that I'm smart; but I am going through the conversion right now. I've asked some similar questions lately.

If I did the 97' conversion on an early SC, I would do the skirts and rear too. It doesn't flow with just the front. The front bumper comes down lower to the ground.

BTW, I wouldn't trust everything you read on wikipedia. A long time ago, the SC article was pretty bad so I edited it to add a lot of useful data on the 1st gen, particularly that youtube video. Unfortunately since I lost interest in editing wikipedia, the article has been "tweeked" over and over by amatuers. Whoever wrote about the front grille is probably some 14 year old who has never owned or seen an SC in real life. Where the 97+ grille is located, there's just no way it could provide any extra airflow to the engine, at least that's how it looks when I pop the hood. There's a lot of plastic covers surrounding the region behind the grille and upper bumper, unless the plastic needs to be cooled .

I couldn't agree more. Not that your cars ^ look bad fellas, but the bumper sure hangs down lower than the rest.

I guess we'll just have to attribute it solely to the factor then.

i don't think it looks bad with just the 97 bumper

i mean i think the ideal would be to upgrade it all eventually or something, but i don't think it's not like the front hangs down that much further... looks stock still

I agree, I do not think it looks bad at all as far as the bottom being a bit lower. I think people are just way too critical on this forum.

I don't think it looks bad with only the 97+ bumper, it's still a kick *** ride, but is sure looks better with all the pieces.

I'd rather have people be honest and critical than tell me something looks cool when they know it doesn't. I'm all ears when someone has advice on how to make my car look better.

Either way if you like your car that's all that matters. Who cares what anyone else thinks unless you're competing.

My car looks like crap right now. I doesn't hurt my feelings to acknowledge it. I'm all about progress.

It's all good!

I've owned both a 93 and now a 97, and I can easily say that I much rather the styling of the later models.

PS I still want my old Soarer back though

I just ordered a 97+ bumper, fogs and grill from Carson Toyota 2 weeks ago. and got it in today. I was thinking about doing the full conversion but I think it will look good without it. If I do anything later on, i would probably put on a lip kit around the car

Some member sent me these pics

the front bumper does not go that much lower
