I bought the car with the tails like that. The are actually painted. Yes, you read correctly. Painted. It's 1 part "dab of black" and 10 parts clear. Darker than I would have done too, but whatever. P&H Protection will likely be helping me get these redone to a more respectable look (and more leagal BTW) probably sooner than later. They certainly went better with the drug dealer, slammed on chrome 20"s look.

They will likely strip the paint and use one of their 3M paint protection products to re-tint the lights to whatever level I want. The paint job now is decent and it's waxable which is nice as it gets really shiney, but it's just too dark. During the day, you can't really see the brake lights from an angle, you have to be straight behind the car. The turn signals look a little too dim for my liking too. It looks awesome at night though.
why the smoked tails?? The lights are soo sexy on the SC..especially the 97+, everything else
