Jeff, I guess you like Speed Pride's Supra7 then, I know I do. The Syclone/Typhoon motors are known to be a bit more finicky than the GN motor, that 4.3 motor has been known to pop a couple of rods and melt a piston or two, even with air/fuel at Stoich. Hey, some of you may not realize that the GM corporate 4.3 engine is a 350 Chevy with the back two cylinders lopped off, same bore, stroke, etc, i've measured it. I WILL pick up an SC3 and turbo it, I promise. I would say early 2003 i'll start looking for one, and build something real serious. Now, Jeff, when are you gonna let me put a small block in you girlfriend's Jeep? Better yet, I think Clint has an '87 GN motor lying around, I could start fabricating the mounts.......

i dont know what to think about that sp car...id like a mid sized single turbo on that car..and i dont think its even running yet......i have thought alot about the LT1 or LS1 conversion on the jeep...but in the mostly mudding i do down here the V8 seems to be too torqey....it just spins tires in the mud...while the jeep with a 4cyl and the right gears...does incredible...its a champ and nice and light.......that thing is fun......i have heard the same thing about the 4.3 motor....burning up...id just swap in a gn motor to the all wheel drive....holy crap that would be awsome....
i dont see any new cars out there id like for performance.....im looking at mabye buying a 98 nissian 240 for a daily driver...agressive look and rear drive....but these are just thoughts....i need a bigger house and larger garage 1st.... Jeff

What kind of body kit is that on your car???

Nevermind...I thought your car was that Hayden guy's car...what kind of kit is on that guy's soarer?

I am guessing it's a stock body kit that comes with 97+.

Why not a nice 2000 Subaru Impreza RS 2.5? Do engine, tranny, and diffriencial swap with a WRX or J-spec WRX STi. That car will eat up any car on a street in corering. I know you guys praise the RX7 and sure, 240sx is nice and a great car for drifting, but that's all on a track with lots of room. I know for a fact pre-2002 Impreza with some hevy mods will smoke almost any car in handling on any street. Ever seen AWD car drift? Too bad Subaru Impreza isn't such a good car at high speed. I found out myself the hard way. First I was a passager when my friend spinned out at 120 mph across the median and then sencond time when he spinned out at 80 mph. Second time was fun. It was on the highway and he controlled it so it wasn't as bad.

AWD drifting? Haven't you seen Initial D Special Stage? Why, a Sil-180 can outdrift any LanEvo or Scoobie j/k
Anyone who's ever seen WRC racing knows what the Subaru is really capable of. How the hell did your friend spin his Impreza?? I've seen people do axis spins in Audis, but that was intentional and not easy to do. I personally would take the Peugeot 206 or the Citroen Xsara for handling.. but that's Euro stuff.

I disagree. If youre a do-it-yourselfer, that 3K$ goes a LONG way on a RX-7 at least (and 300ZTT). Reguardless of Hp #'s, that will give you a mid 12 sec car easily. Crack the block and do some tricks and you can hit 11's; reliably. The SC is just too darn heavy. The switch over to a turbo is costly to do it right and lands you in the same place as a standard Supra. Now you'll forever be trying to tune the suspension to match the engine power to weight issue.

We, as Lexus owners are trying so hard to turn a sports coupe into a sports car. Well, lets face it; its not a sports car. We can easliy drop thousands of $$'s to get it close, but it will never be. If you want a true sports car, go buy a sports car. Me; I'm happy with the perfect in-between. I know my SC4 will not hit the 11's (at least not any time soon ) . So, I have another car to do that. I am fortunate enough to have worked on and raced rotary engines (RX-7's) for the past nearly 14 years now. I can rebuild the engines for pennies and make mad power by knowledge and handiwork alone, few costly aftermarket parts to buy. Maybe someday, after I start breaking open 1UZ blocks, I will be able to create that kind of power down the road. But uintill then, the SC is a bolt on baby. We must buy parts to make our cars go fast. That becomes pricey. Not a lot of internal mods to create power as of yet, though porting iseems to be a viable option for the heads.

Any way, I look forward to the day that we can spend equal $$ on cars and get similar gains. But for now, that stupid "L" emblem makes our Toyotas just that much more expensive to mod out.

For whats its worth, 45$ and a half hours work will get a bone stock RX-7 in the high 12's. The engine may not last very long, but it will be fast ! Cheap Hp.

Question

I don't understand what all the comotion is? I entered the Lexus world about 5 months ago with a 92' Limited (ex Japan) with the 4.0lt V8 and all the gadgetry. I automatically replaced the standard 15" wheels with 17" + pirellis'. Look factor rose by 40%. Replaced the entire exhaust system with 2 3/4" mandrel bent headers + hi flow cats. Sound factor rose by 100%. Performance factor rose by about 10%.

Now looking at better intake system and remapping computer for Australian conditions.

Why go to the expence? Because I love the quality of build, the smooth ride, the technology, and the prestige of the vehicle. And I want it to have a level of performance that befits its beautifull sporty look.

I know it will never match a corvette or mustang (weight factor) or WRX in the performance stakes but modifying a vehicle for optimum performance does not necessarily mean you want to beat every other car on the road.

If it feels good....do it !!

My Lexus with $10k in mods would run DEEP 11s my friend.

Wanna know how?

$3.5K for base turbo kit
$1.5K for AEM standalone
$1k for fuel system upgrades including ZTT fuel pump
$350 used LSD
$1500 6-speed transmission and flywheel
$550 good clutch
$150 driveshaft
$600 NOS wet kit
$50 alcohol injection setup
$200 for a set of 17x9.5 SupraTT rims for drag radials when I go to the strip

Installed all by myself except for the head gasket and custom driveshaft creation

running 23psi on pump gas with the alcohol injection and a 70shot on top... on a T60-1 turbo

It will WASTE ANY 300zx on the road; I know for a fact; getting a Z to run a 11s is like almost impossible. Nice car but they respond to mods for ****

I had a Stage IV Z... it was nice... but it would get its *** handed to it by this car... Stage IV Zs run low 13s... big whoop... BPU supras can run 11s and BPU RX-7s can run 11s...

This lexus will have the mph to run LOW 11s or high 10s

I'd like to see the C5 Vette running even close to this for $3k in mods. Even a Z06. BPU Supras lay waste to Z06s; I've seen it done 3 or 4 times in person.

Take a look at SC300T's car... running 12.73s @116 with a bolton kit and open-diff... with a limited slip and a better launch he can run low 12s or high 11s with that kind of trap speed range

He proves that a Stage 1.5 will put you even with a VIPER... Thats just a Stage 1.5; his setup has so much potential its ridiculous... he was only running 12psi on that run... imagine running 23psi with a 70 shot on top and a drivetrain to backup a LSD and drag radials? Why do you think I'm selling my 300zx? Because I know the Lex has far more potential in it in what I want to do. will it handle as well? No it won't; but it will handle pretty fricken awsome; and it will sure as hell out accelerate it; have better gas mileage; and be more of a sleeper; which is more fun to me in the street racing scene.

I don't see why its so hard for you people to believe how fast a Turbo SC300 is. go ride in Jeff's car; then realize he's spend A LOT of money on it; then go ride in Scott's car and see what a Stage 1.5 can do. THEY ARE FAST...

I just don't think most of you know what fast is; you read about it in magazines and you're friends talk about it; but have you ever ridden in a fast car or been streetracing to see what FAST really is? The same thing occurs with a lot of domestic owners; some are scared of BPU Supras because they know what they can do (lay waste to most domestics)... but some are doubters because they've never seen it... they think they are fast in their 13sec LS1s... until they run a turbo import and they have newfound broadened horizons. I just don't get it with some of you. turbo cars for the most part (especially those made for it like the SC300) are VERY VERY fast... Stop magazine reading and bench racing and go out and race guys (this isn't directed to anyone in particular; its just a group vibe I'm getting from doubters). Go ride in Scott's car and see for yourself. Or at least a BPU SupraTT of some sort to see the potential and understand that the SC300 with a Stage 1.5 kit is FASTER than that.

Take the Sy/Tys and GNs... they are rare; but when they are out and the owner knows what he's doing; he pretty much dominates all the other domestic owner friends of his.
First off, I love my Lexus..

*I believe and KNOW that ANY car can be made fast with the right AMOUNT of $$$... read MONEY!!! That's why I play with my Ghia for pennies compared to newer Japanese imports... Which by the way faster than a lot of them around...

In this thread read the cost and time involved.. @https://www.clublexus.com/forums/sho...240#post178240

@Bean remember the ZXTT you saw on Speed Vision? What I don't understand is why there are no really fast Supras... sure 8s are fast, but there's a 300zxTT running 7.60s now; i saw it on speedvision with my own eyes; Siguel Racing owns it... Now out of your own mouth/hands a ZXTT faster than a Supra? nah...

@www.toyomoto.com get their number and call to ask about the prices and labor involved.. I

t is not as easy as it is made out to be in this forum.. And the results are not typical for a base kit... read the fine print

*C5 CAN get more than 12.8 with the $3k in easy mods... This is not speculation this is FACT... If you truly have stage IV on your ZX TT and can not get more than low 13d something is either wrong with your driving or your car... I had a ZX TT also therefore save that one....

*With ALL the turbo mods you list for the SC3 there is NO WAY that price is going to be $10K unless you have the HOOK UP on almost everything you listed... And you must be one hell of a mechanic The prices I listed INcluded labor... 95% of the guys here IF considering this upgrade would be paying for labor SO let's make and keep this topic REALISTIC for the average consumer... Don't sell them on $19.95 miracle speed for a short time only infomercial Let's be opened and fair about this... ****All truly interested just call one of these places and get quotes for these mods WITH LABOR... and warranty!!!

*As for reading stats vs seeing fast cars... I or my Father and brother haved owned sports/fast cars as long as I can remember... 72 GTS Triumph modded, k with a high hp Impala SS(Dad) , Dodge Charger lots of hp(Dad), 55 Ford all "street" truck(ALL), 280 ZX(TURBO) modded, 89 Mustang GT modded to the max, 944 Porsche, ZX and ZXTT(TURBO)(brother had one too) both modded, Conquest TSI(TURBO) modded, VW Karmann Ghia custom, Boxster(brother), C5 (brother had one to)modded, Mustang GT modded, SC4... these are the just the sport cars/coupes/sedans I have had so that's why I comment on facts from history of the cars... I have had turbo cars too and know the potential of the cars and the EXPENSE w/labor in CONVERTING a SC to become turbo...

I have a lot of friends with ZX TT, two have Supra TT, 3000 GTs, C4 and C5s, Stang Cobra, RX7, GNX, S/C Iroc, street Novas etc.. I have an Uncle in Atlanta that owned Fiats v8, MGB, Sting Ray Vette(modded), 300ZX TT modded, 928, Thunder Bird SC modded, 968, Lotus S4 (TURBO) a few go fast goodies<My favorite to drive >.. to name a few of his cars...

My ex's Father had/has a 911 Turbo and 944 turbo... She had/has a 355 Ferrari too..

So saying all that... I study cars, learn about car by READING, driving, listening, and seeing... "Learn yourself NOT, what people tell ya to believe"... I know what real speed is... I eat, drink and sleep cars... ALL CARS.... Not just the one I own at a time And there is NO WAY a sinlge turbo based kit can come close to a $3k modded C5 or ZXTT, Supra TT, RX7, 3000GT VR4, NSX, or 944 Turbo S....... I have a neighbor with a 95' Viper that could not beat my lightly modded C5... So how is a a single based turbo kit SC3 even compare? I'm still waiting for the base turbo kit 1/4 mile times and true complete price list from a person with one.

And this is coming for a "player" in the game, not a "bench" reader!

Should the guys here question the claims of the turbo conversion's cost and output in base or other stages? NO DOUBT!!! Can a SC be a great turbo sleeper? NO DOUBT!! Can it be MADE with the right amount of $$$ beat all the cars I mentioned? NO DOUBT!!! Would I take a turbo SC? NO DOUBT!!! Is IT one of the best luxury coupe mentioned? NO DOUBT!!! Are there much better FASTER choices in modding for far less money? NO DOUBT!!!

LOL! I noticed that hardcore SC400 owners think that SC is not a sports car. Then SC300 owners and some SC400 owners think that it is. I belive it is. If it's not, why Viper is not a sports car. I mean, it's way too hevy right (as someone said)? We have a coupe, in US a Firebird or a Camaro are also coupes. They can't handle very well yet they're fast and they're rwd. So why isn't SC a sports car? Because SC400 doesn't have the market to so people can make it faster? Please! It's true that some cars are cheaper to mod than others, but it doesn't mean anything. Also, to explain to you, Toyota Supra TT is about 3400 lbs, some people claim it's already too hevy. Another thing, putting a single turbo T04E turbo on the SC300 will make the SC faster than a Supra with stock turbos. Supra don't get too much power till it hits the second turbo. First turbo is always running pretty low boost. With T04E you have a wide band of boost available at any time. That is what I think, can one of the turbo guys confirm this?

On the subject...I think its cool to mix both styles of cars if you can get away with it. I guess you would call these 'Touring coupes' my E31 is in this class. Heavy as hell but will cruise at 150+ without straining.
it's actually quieter or as quiet as the SC at Idle But with a V-12.
There are clear lines drawn by BMW owners on this issue... But I always thought of those owners as 'stuffy'.
we are going to tune the SC this spring, ECU,re-designed suspension and a few other things before starting a new project this fall...... I think its cool having both(Lux & sportscar in one).

I've said it before and i'll say it again..I hate seeing the same cars with the same wheels, tires, body kits, springs, stereo etc.
Makes the world dull dont ya think?

First of all, all my cars are stock. I like to save the money on mod to get another car. Wouldn't you like to have to decided which car you want to drive to work this morning?

To me, a sport car is a two seats car. The ride is somewhat rough (I am getting old).

The Viper didn't have A/C, radio, heated seats, noisy as h#&l and cost $99K . Now that's a sport car. And yes I don't care if it is unreliable but it is a Viper.

Corvette! I always love that car, any year, any color. Because it is a Corvette. It is a two seater car.

I think a sport coupe is a two doors, four seater.

SC400 is a LUXURY sport coupe, the ride is nice and quiet, I love it.

So you're saying a Viper is because it's a two seater and Toyota Supra TT isn't because it has 2 + 2 seats? Please! I doubt you guys get it right. So a car that (when done right) handles better than a Viper, faster than viper, and lighter than Viper is not a sports car. Okay, sure! I belive you.. not! SC is a luxuary sports car that's very much mellowed in US. It's true colors won't come out untill you turbo and upgrade the suspension. SCs stock have to be most ghetto lexus cars IMHO. Why? Because Lexus never tried to sell the car right. 16" rims? 17" ugly rims? What's up with that. Change the rims and the car starts to look real good. The car is begging for tuning and modding.
