Well i have been searching for different setups for the SC400. I have eliminated the restrictive Y pipe and put straight dual pipes past it, but still retaining the stock rear resonators and mufflers. Well it sounds like SLP exhaust for a LS1 camaro.......not the sound i was going for. I welded a crossover to connect the pipes to help with the scavaging effect and get back some lost torque on the bottom end. Well it doesnt sound any better. Are my mufflers shot? They do have 190k on them. and were full with about a gallon of water in them. Looking to get rid of the raspy noise for something with a deep mellow tone. I read about the magnaflows and they sound pretty good but im tired of playing around with this setup....Its staring to get expensive...Any opinons.....

 

To this point, my exhaust has deleted resonators only. Every other square inch is stock. I think the sound is sweet. It has the same cleanliness of stock but ~5dB louder and a shade deeper. For $40 at the local exhaust shop, it has been a good investment.

For your purposes, however, a muffler swap might be the best option since you have an interest in changing tone and not loudness.
