Default Carbon Fiber on the window trim

I, like many people on CL, was getting sick of the scratched up black window trim piece on the outside of the car.

Mine was black but had quite a few scratches that were exposing the chrome metal underneath. I was considering painting these two pieces, as I have seen several threads with pictures of freshly black painted trim. It looked good painted... I just hadn't got around to buying any paint.

I happen to find a roll of 3M carbon fiber laying around my house, so I decided to wrap the trim in it.
I did not remove the trim to do this (that is a huge pain). I simply traced to shape and then cut matching pieces (a little larger than needed) out of the carbon fiber film. Washed the trim well, and kept it ever so slightly damn with soapy water (like one would do with tint). I then made sure the CF was flat, aligned correctly, and bubble free. Any small bubbles could be easily pushed out. I folded the edges over, trimmed them to slightly overlap, then used a credit card to wedge the edges into the rubber seal on all side of the trim.

I think to looks good - definitely 100% better than before. What do you think? Too ricey? I love to hear some opinions.

I think it looks great. Not to ricey in my opinion. It flows nicely and is a great alternative to painting it. Good job!

I think it looks good. Also, when you say 3M carbon fiber, it is just a sticker with the carbon fiber pattern right?

Thanks for the input guys!

The more I look at it the more I like it. At this point I would say I prefer it to just a nice flat black coat of paint. It is subtle enough, and only on that piece ... so it really isn't too Honda Civic-ish.

It is Carbon Fiber Vinyl Adhesive. It is made by Avery (this is print on the white peel off backing). It can be purchased on eBay, or found via google, and should run about $20-$30 for a 3-4sq ft roll.

The most important part is that you leave about 1/4+ inch excess in every direction. You then have to pry up the plastic / rubber pieces surrounding the trim, and really tuck this excess in there. It makes all the difference in terms of giving a fully wrapped appearance (w/o having to remove the piece and fully wrap it), and it seems like this should stay put for a while.

Here are a few more pics ... but again on the junk cell phone.

I'll trade someone the 2sq ft I have left for a low quality digi camera lol.

I think it's low-key and looks great.
