Ok so I ran through a problem with my tails. Tried to paint it this week, but the outcome was too too dull. I stripped off the paint (used Krylon Glass Paint from Michaels).

I am assuming you have to use rubbing compound to prep it? What else can we use to prep it before paint?

SCpwner, did you paint the bottom (the red part) red again? Or you left it unpainted?

BTW, VERY VERY NICE TAILIGHTS!

I was actually trying to find a red film or tape in alternate of this since I hated how it look so much when I did it.

Doesn't look too bad. I have a project for some tail lights that is very similar to that.

You used a glass paint to paint your plastic taillights? that could be your problem there... You don't necissarily have to use a rubbing compound to prep... i didn't i just used wheel cleaner actually. Another thing is if it is too hot or the humidity is high then it will dry the paint in an odd way. Thanks guys and Harbinger it is the picture and the lighting i guess.

Thanks guys for the compliments.

wetsand it with 1,500 or 2,000 grit sandpaper, polish, wax, and it'll be glossy as hell. Did you put a clearcoat?

I did not use a clear coat and are you sure wetsanding it will be alright? i would think it would take off a coat of paint or something?

Looks pretty good to me, it's a little OP but not too bad. I think lesson learned is don't do this on a hot day even if it's in the shade... the paint dries too fast and doesn't have time to even itself out. I remember doing this on a nice cool day.

I didn't have to wetsand, use rubbing compounds or anything to make it glossy. I've used testors before and although it works, the color didn't match the stock red that well and it wasn't as glossy as the Vans spray.

Where at pnyboy do you see the orange? Sometimes when the light hits it just right you can see a tint of orange but i did paint over orange so that's why i guess. Also i will get a far away shot today after i was her. I took off my Pearl Black emblems when i put on the chrome and i am going to repaint those and sell them all together. If anyone is interested just pm me.

in the 2nd, 3rd, and 5th pic..but its very slight..not that noticeable. maybe i just have a keen eye or something..haha..or it could be the fact that i just know its orange..but im sure if any other person were to see it, they wouldnt notice..but it still looks very clean..i was thinking about doing this mod since its much easier than doing the red/white one

Oh ok, i too was about to do the red/clear tails but it's too hard and time consuming so i went this route. Also i forgot to get a distance pic. First thing tomorrow morning i will do so.
