Default Changing tires ...

I am considering snow tires for the upcoming winter in Canada and have a set of Blizzack 225/60/16's (off the wife's old car) to replace the 225/55/16 summers. Is there any potentail harm with just having the snows put on the same rims and vice versa in the spring. Do not want the major expense of having to purchase another sets of rims but do not want to damage the existing rims either. Any experience in this regard ? Are second hand 92 SC400 rims hard to find and at what cost ?

Thanks

You can use your existing rims. However, if they are chrome they can get eaten up a bit by the road salt etc.

Here's some SC wheels on ebay if your interested. Looks like the person is just looking to dump

them.http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/aw-cg...ndexURL=0&rd=1

Vern:
The luxury of having two sets of wheels, one with summer tires and one with winter tires is nice. My SC400 came with two sets of factory rims with winters and summers. I can change these over myself at home and take good care of them in the off season.

As far as harming the rims, the 16" rims do not pose a size issue to a typical good tire shop. Please make sure you let them know that you covet the wheels and want them taken good care of. Some shops can charge you anywhere from $12 to $25 per wheel to change tires. You typically need the new tires dynamically balanced and sometimes have a new valve added.

So if you can get away with $50 to $100 to remove 4 tires and mount 4 tires you are in the ballpark. So in one year you can expect to spend $100 to $200 with two tire changes per year. You may be able to find 4 wheels on eBay for a reasonable price. All of the SC400 wheels fit all the years. You can save some cash in the long run by having two sets of wheels and also the wear and tear on the salt etc on your best set of summer wheels.

Having two sets of wheels is the best thing. Somewhat of a luxury but well worth it IMHO. BTW, the Blizzacks, as you know are a great tire for the snow.
