I just put the fronts on tonite.

The walkthrough on this site mentions reusing the rubber grommets on the bottom side of the shock tower, but there was also a much bigger (around 3") rubber grommet that was on the top of the shock that I removed from the car.

I initially put the coilovers in the car without said 3" grommet. Then when pressure was applied to the lower control arms the rod on the struts came way too high through the shock tower. Something must be missing ???

So I then tried it WITH the said 3" grommets and then put the car back on the ground, and now the strut rod doesnt come all the way through the shock tower so I can put that nut on the top of it.


I am confussed. What am I missing or doing wrong? My car is now stuck at my parents for the night and I am going nuts!

They came with those same instructions.

There is no mention that I can tell of the said 3" grommet.

I just dont want the shock to punch a hole in my hood, if ya know what I mean?


Anyone else with similar experience or thoughts???

 

iono its just plug and play just put it under to the top... screw the screws on top with the plastic thing and ur done

 

That would have punched two holes in my hood when I hit a bump.

I decided to cut the said 3" grommet in about half and it works like a champ. Too wet out to really get on it and see how it rides though. Until another day...

 

The instruction is straight forward. I don't know which 3" grommet that you're mentioning. You don't reuse the 2 stock bumping stoppers at all. This is the order of the coilover installed:

0. Tein strut nut that locks the OEM metal upper strut mount and the Tein shock body.
1. OEM metal upper strut mount with 3 studs protruding to the engine bay.
2. OEM rubber strut mount (the large round piece that sits right under the metal strut mount to insulate between the spring and the mount).
3. Tein dust cover.
4. Tein bump stopper washer.
5. Tein bump stopper (white color rubber).
6. Tein spring that sits under the OEM rubber strut mount.
7. Tein spring seat (hard black plastic round).
8. 2 Tein spring seat locks.'
9. Tein shock body with the top rod protrudes through the engine bay and locked by the nut.

That's all.
