Default Some 1998 vs 1992 observations...

Being a new owner (AGAIN FOR THE SECOND TIME), of a pearl white SC, just couple things that I really enjoy

1) Love the front/rear end, looks so much more updated
2) Power seems to be equal, but its been a while I have driven a 1992
3) The tan leather is SO much better than the greenish leather in the 92
4) Love the Instant MPG in the instrument cluster, but can't get it to do default setting. Everytime I start the car, the TEMP (outside) is the default, and I have to change it to instant MPG
5)Love the gated shifter
6) Love the auto headlight feature (do these then stay on during the day as well?)
7) LOVE the light beep noise of the keyless entry

I really missed the heavy doors and the luxury part of the car. Yeah I have other sports cars, that are tons faster, but I really missed the SC.

It looks so good, planning to leave it stock maybe Yeah right, wait till summer rolls around, wheels, and suspension will be in the works for sure.

One thing is, I put 12 CDs in the changer last night, but getting a "ERR" I guess Error message, when I press CD. Will have to check it again, and see whats the matter with it.

OTherwise, loving the car.

Go get one of those CD/DVD cleaner disc's...its a disc with some Audio tuning tracks on it, but it has brushes on also...when you play it...as you advance the tracks...it cleans the lens.

or the changer is dead...I'm hoping for a dirty lens!!!

HMM ok, will check it out. Every single thing works on the car, so would be surprised if the changer is dead.

This is about the 18,000-th time I have heard this. With warn, older-style seats, this makes me want to upgrade sooner than anticipated.

Nope. Your headlights come on when the light outside gets dim. They turn off when daytime arrives. This is one of my favorite features of my 96.

This could be a dirty lens. It could be a busted unit (not irreplaceable...check the classifieds). It also COULD be in need of a reset. Mine did this once. I took out the magazine. With the cover open on the inside of the unit on the wall of the unit in line with the rear of the car (hard to see without being an amateur contortionist with a flashlight), there is a "reset" button. Requires a pen to push in. It may work. It may not. But, it is definitely worth a try.

Ryan, nice to see you around again...I'm sure you'll want to do more than just rims/suspension...=P

I love the gated shifter in my 92 as well...makes it feel brand new!

Carputer?

The 98 also comes with a A341E transmission (same as the Supra TT Auto) so that is defiantly an plus.

Thanks for all the info. I still gotta figure out how to change the default outside temp setting in the instrument cluster.

Cool thing on the auto lights.

Gotta check out the changer this weekend!

#1,3,5,7 Exactly why I decided to get a 97+ SC. Getting a 98 SC was the best decision I made, too bad diamond white pearl SCs were not made in 99-00...Otherwise..

my 93 sc400 had the auto lights as well, the cd changer in my 97 sc300 didnt work when i bought the car so i had it fixed, free of course since i bought it from the local lexus dealership everything should be in working order upon purchase, well they fixed it only for it to break again 3 months later, so i said screw it, im goin with an in-dash touch screen dvd/cd head unit... oh and i went for the 97+ body style for all the same reasons you did the second time around
